Activity Report of 2017 – 18

School Health Program

School Health Programme was organized at Govt. Upper Primary School Kiralu on21-01-19 and 06.03.2019 in which 85 student’s health assessment was done. Major cases identified were dental carries, respiratory infection and fever. Health talks were given to the teachers and children on various topics like personal hygiene, hand hygiene and oral hygiene by using videos, models and demonstration. After the health assessment refreshments were provided for the school children and staff.

Medical camp

On 15-03-19 medical camp was organized at Kiralu village. 125 patients attended the camp. Patients were benefited with CBG monitoring, blood pressure monitoring and check up by physician from Department of General medicine,Dept. Of paediatrics and Dept. of Ophthalmology, JSS Hospital. Five cases of mature cataract were identified. The patients were referred to JSS Hospital for follow up and surgery. The School children and one new born baby were examined by the doctors from paediatric department. Other cases diagnosed were diabetes, hypertension, arthralgia etc. All the prescribed medications were distributed for the patients on the same day free of cost. During the camp health awareness was conducted on various topics like osteoporosis, hypertension and diabetes mellitus.

World Health Day

As a part of World Health Day a guest lecture was organized on 05-04-2019 for the BSc Nursing students on the theme “Universal Health Coverage; Everyone Everywhere”at Sri Rajendra Auditorium. The guest lecture was given by Dr. Praveen Kulkarni, Asst.Professor, JSS Medical College, Mysuru.The faculty members of JSS College of Nursing also were present for the program.

On 11th April 2019 role play was organized on the theme “Universal Health Coverage; everyone everywhere” at Varuna PHC.Around 25 patients and the staff of Varuna PHC benefitted from the role play. Medical Officer Dr. Kantharaj addressed the gathering by emphasizing the need for health coverage for diseases requiring surgery along with medical cases.

JSS College of Nursing celebated 102nd Jayanthi in collaboration with JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, JSS College of Physiotherapy and JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru, on 26th October 2017 at Dr. Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, Mysuru. The guests in the programme were Sri. Siddalinga Shivacharya Swamiji, Prof. Malayur Guruswamy, Author, Sri. T. Yogesh, Additional DC, present on the occasion. Sri R Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha presided over the programme. Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing, present on the occasion. The Programme ended with Ashirvachana from Sri. Siddalinga Shivacharya Swamiji.

We are celebrated 62nd Kannada Rajyotsava -2017 in collaboration with JSS institute of Speech and Hearing, JSS College of Physiotherapy and JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru, on 1st November 2017 at Dr. Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS hospital, Mysuru. The guests in the programme were Sri. Bannur K Raju, Senior Author, Prof. Gopal, Mimicry Artist, present on the occasion, everyone expressed their unconditional love towards Kannada and Karnataka. Sri R Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha presided over the programme. Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing, present on the occasion.

Department of Psychiatric Nursing and Department of Child Health Nursing, JSS College of Nursing in collaboration with District Administration, Zilla Panchayath, Department of Women & Child Welfare, District Child Protection Unit and District Legal Services Authority conducted one day Workshop on “Child Rights & Child Law, Role of Hospitals in Adoption Process, POCSO Act-2012,PCPNDT Act and Child Marriage Act -2016”,conducted on 10th January 2018 at Rajendra Bhavana, JSS Hospital Campus, Mysuru for the benefit of 200 Graduate & Postgraduate Nursing Students & Teaching faculty of JSS College of Nursing.

The workshop was inaugurated by Special Invitee Mr. Mohamad Mujirulla, Senior Judge & Member Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Mysuru. Mrs. K. Radha, Deputy Director, Department of Women & Child Welfare, Mysuru and Mrs. Kamala. H.T, President, Child Welfare Committee, Mysuru. Dr. M.D .Ravi, Director, JSS Medical College & Hospital, Mysuru presided over the occasion. Mr. Suresh, Chief Executive Officer, JSS law College, Mysuru, Mr. Kumara Swamy MK Child Protection Officer, Mysuru and Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru were the Guests of Honor. Mr. Venkatesh, Director, BIRDS Organization, Mandya and Mr. Srinvasa Raje Urs, Legal Cum Probationary Officer, District Child Protection Unit, Mysuru were the Resource persons of the workshop.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Mohamad Mujirulla, Senior Judge & Member Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Mysuru, who expressed that the aim of the present workshop is to help the Nursing students & Teachers to gain information regarding Child Rights & Child Law, Role of Hospitals in Adoption Process, POCSO Act-2012,PCPNDT Act and Child Marriage Act -2016.

Dedication Ceremony of 21st batch of Basic B. Sc. Nursing was held on 2nd March 2018 at 11 am at Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, Mysuru.

Dr. (Col)M Dayananda, Director, JSS Hospital, Mysuru, Sr. Jacintha D S’ouza Principal, Father Muller College of Nursing, Mangaluru, Sri. R. Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mrs. Janet Mathias Dy. Chief of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital and Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing were present. Eighty-seven 1st year Basic BSc nursing students lit their lamps of education and service and took the oath. Chief Guest Dr. Noor Mansoor, C.M. KAS Registrar (Academics), Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, appreciated the discipline among nursing students and also highlighted on the significance of oath and to imbibe the same in clinical practice. The prize was distributed for the students who won at Sutur Cultural Competition held during Jathra celebration. Dr. (Col) M. Dayananda, Director, JSS Hospital, Mysuru, stressed on the need of demand for qualified nurses all over the World. Sr. Jacintha D S’ouza, Principal, Father Muller College of nursing, Mangaluru, emphasized on the dedication required for the students while caring for patients. Post lunch Parent- Teacher meeting was conducted to discuss the progress of new students

Inauguration of  Annual NSS Special CAMP

NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru conducted NSS Annual Special Camp for 7 days at Mosanabayanahalli village, Mysuru (T) & (D) from 20.03.2018 to 26.03.2018.

Screening for Health Problem

 In Collaboration with JSS hospital a general health camp was organized. In this regard, a lecture class on ‘life moral values and youth’ was held by Mr. Lion C R Dinesh State NSS award winner, Principal &Asst coordinator of NSS State Cell, Mysuru division. followed by a talk from Mr. Mahanthesh on the significance of NSS. Then Mr. Doreswami former member of taluk Panchayath addressed the people on NSS Services.

Cultural progarmme rendered by Mr. Devananda and team ‘Ekathari’ on ‘Krushiranga Khusitaranga‘

In collaboration with JSS Hospital, the pediatric camp was organized for rural children of Mosanabayanahalli and health check-up was conducted.

Dr. Ravishankar gave a talk on Health awareness.  It was very elaborative and he stressed the importance of preventive health. Villagers raised the doubts. Followed by Dr. Shelly, Asst. Professor from JSS Ayurvedic Medical College spoke about “Rural Health”, it was highly effective many people participated and was beneficial.

Mr. B B Sathosh delivered a Special talk about myths and facts in religion under the topic of ‘vyaignenikateya handaradalli”.

In collaboration with JSS hospital, Dept of Ophthalmology organized an eye camp. Eye check-up was done.16 patients was elected for a cataract operation.

Mr. Beemaraju gave a talk on ‘Comedy touch in Janapada Literature’.

As a part of the World TB Day celebration, we organized a rally to create awareness. The rally was inaugurated by Mr. Chandrashekhar Aradhya, the village leader.

In the evening programme Mr. Shivaram, District Health supervisor, Mysuru spoke about “Current scenario in Tuberculosis”.  Followed by a live demonstration on ‘Handing snakes’ and lecture on significance of snakes in biodiversity Mr. Snake Mahesh. He also stressed on snake bite and its management.

Evening programme was started with the guest lecture by Mr. Mu. Na Ramesh, Asst. Lecturer, Hilal College. He had a talk on “Mind and Body in a whirlpool of modern lifestyle”. Followed by the creative famous drama Jalagara written by kuvempu performed by   Ekathari team Mysuru. it attracted the attention of villagers the programme ended by 9:30 pm.
The valedictory function was conducted in the presence of Mr. Veena Gurumurthy, former Taluk Panchayath Member, Varuna constituency, Mrs. Ningamani, President of Village Panchayath, Mr. Doreswamy, former Member of Taluk Panchayath and Mr. Chandrashekara Aradya. Mr. Doreswamy, Chief Guest, addressed the gathering and extended his appreciation and acknowledged the contribution of NSS volunteers of JSS College of Nursing. Mr. Veena Gurumurthy who had presided over the function requested to organise more such camps in other villages also. Other special invitees like Mr. Palaksha B and Mr. Sidhachari, Mrs. Jayamma members of village Panchayath were present in the function. Villagers felt very happy about the bunch service rendered from NSS unit of JSS college and appreciated. They were felicitated by the villagers.  It was a grand success and gained an overwhelming response.
Department of Child Health Nursing, JSS College of Nursing conducted a seminar on “Pediatrics Emergencies” on 31st May 2018 at Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Bhavana, JSS old Hospital Campus, Mysuru for the benefit of MSc, BSc, and PB. BSc Nursing students of JSS College of Nursing.

The session began at 9.30 am by welcoming the resource persons.  Followed by this, the sessions were conducted as per schedule.

JSS Hospital, JSS College of Nursing and JSS School of Nursing celebrated International Nurses day 2018 on 9th June 2018 at 11 am in Dr.Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, Mysuru. The programme started with an invocation by Ms.Laseena and the gathering was welcomed by Mrs. Vidya .M.

The Chief Guest for the day was Dr.S.Sacchidanand, Director of Medical Education, Bengaluru. Guest of Honour was Sri. Srikanth B. Pullari, Registrar of Karnataka Nursing Council, Special Invitee Dr (col)  M Dayanand, Director, JSS Hospital and the programme was presided by Sri. R. Mahesh, Director of Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha. Heads of all Institutes were present on the occasion.

The programme started with the inauguration by the guests followed by felicitation to Sri. Srikanth B. Pullari who also spoke to the gathering regarding digitalization and present scope of nursing in India as well as abroad. College Magazine BIMBA was released by the guest.

Dr. S. Sacchidanand in his speech said that nurses are the heart of the hospital and she should be smart and energetic physically and mentally. He appreciated JSS Institutes of Nursing for their contribution in the field of nursing education. He also praised JSS Institution as the Jewel in the crown of RGUHS. Dr (Col) M. Dayanand wished and congratulated all the nurses for choosing such a noble profession.

Sri. R. Mahesh in his presidential address congratulated all the winners of the competition and advised the nurses to have a smiling face always at work and be smart to balance the personal as well as their professional life. Prizes were distributed to all the winners of literary and cultural competitions which were held on behalf of Nurses Day 2018 by the guests. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. S G Shashidhar Kumar, SON Programme ended with national anthem followed by lunch.

Two days National Conference 2018 “Design Your Research” was organized on 06th and 07th July 2018 at Dr. Rajendra Centenary Auditorium. This conference was designed for all teachers, PhD scholars and PG students of Nursing, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Ayurveda and Speech and Hearing. A total of 249 delegates participated actively in the conference. The conference aimed to explore the quantitative and qualitative research designs, to understand the use of it to the best of student requirement and to promote excellence in professional activities.

The conference was inaugurated on 06th July 2018 at 10 am by Dr. C G Betsurmath, Executive secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Dr. S Balasubramanian, Director (Research) & Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Dr. B.V. Kathyayini, Principal, NIMHANS CON, Bangalore and Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing.

Valedictory ceremony was conducted on 07th July 2018 at 01 pm in the presence of Sri. R. Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Dr. Sumithra Selvan, Biostatistician St. John’s Medical College and Research Institute, Mr. Shashidhara G S, KSNC nominated Observer and Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing. Mrs. Anitha V.N, Organizing Secretary presented the conference report followed by certificate distribution to the delegates and award for best paper and poster was given by the dignitaries. Sixteen hours of credit points were allotted for delegates by KSNC. Delegates expressed that the conference was very effective and useful.
