Nurses: A force for change: A vital resource for health

 

 

        JSS College of Nursing in collaboration with JSS School of Nursing and Department of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital, Mysore is celebrating the International Nurses Day 2014 on 12.05.2014 at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Medical College, Mysore. As a part of the International Nurses Day 2014 Celebrations, we have organized various programs from 07.05.2014 to 10.05.2014. The programs are as follows.

 

On 07.05.2014 Wednesday, we have organized debate competition on “Nurse: A vital resource for health” at 11.00 am at Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Bhavana, JSS Hopsital, Mysore. The 10 groups were participated in the debate competition from various nursing colleges and hospitals in Mysore. Students enthusiastically participated in the competition and expressed their views about the topic given. Later at 03.00 pm we have organized Poster competition on “Image of Nursing” at JSS College of Nursing. About 17 participants were present and displayed their posters. Dr. Anjali, Quality Head, TSS Rao, Psychiatrist and Dr. Sumana M N, Microbiologist, Ms. Reshma JSS Hospital, Mysore were judged both debate and poster competition.

 

On 08.05.2014 Thursday, we had organized the street play on “Awareness on Tuberculosis” at 05.00pm. The students of JSS College of Nursing were played street play  at Devaraja Market, Near K R Circle and The students of JSS School of Nursing were played street play at Agrahara Circle, Mysore. About 80-100 people benefited by the street play and they appreciated the effort of JSS Nursing institutions.

 

On 09.05.5014 Friday, we had Health Check up at Vimala Terminal Care Centre, Hinkal, Hunsur Road, Mysore at 09.00 am. There were 6 inmates having diabetes and 10 inmates had hypertension. Students have provided all the primary care to the inmates and also conducted entertainment session. The inmates actively participated and sung the songs and one of the inmates of the Vimala Terminal Care Centre entertained the group with his dance. The staffs and students of JSS College of Nursing and JSS School of Nursing were contributed a sum of Rs. 7300/- to donate to the Vimala Terminal Care Centre. We have donated groceries worth Rs. 6500 and sponsored the lunch to the inmates on the same day.

 

On 10.05.2014 Saturday, We have organized Clean Drive at Chamundi Hill at 07.30am. About 75 students from JSS College of Nursing and 125 Students from JSS School of Nursing and teachers were participated in the program. Participants collected 30 bags of the plastic, thrown bottled and other wastes from the foot of the Chamundi hill to the top through the steps. By 10.00 am participants reached the top and handed over the waste bags to the gram panchayath. After the programs butter milk and biscuits were distributed to all the participants.

 

The formal celebration of International Nurses Day-2014 was held on 12.05.2014 at at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Medical College, Mysore. Sri Shashidarakumar welcomed the gathering. Mr. Naganna, Chief of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital, Mysore enlighten about the current year theme. The Chief Guest Sri P G Ramesh, Commissioner, City Corporation, Mysore inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp and expressed that the nurses are the key persons in the health care system and they need to work with the dedication for the welfare of the patients. Prof. Sheela Williams gave the brief report of the activities conducted on behalf of International Nurses Dasy. Dr. Guruswamy, Medical superintendent, JSS Hospital, Mysore was the special invitee and appreciated the endless contribution of nurses towards the patient care. Dr. Col (Rtd) R K Chaturvedi, presided over the occasion. Mrs. Janet Mathias, Deputy Chief of Nursing Services delivered a vote of thanks. After the formal program the students of JSS College of Nursing and school of nursing performed cultural programs. The program concluded by 06.00pm.
