NSS SPECIAL CAMP
NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru conducted Annual Special Camp for 7 days from 14-05-2016-20-05-2016 at Gejjiganahalli village, Nanjangud (T), Mysuru (D) with theme “Prevention and management of Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension, prevention of communicable diseases and environmental sanitation”
The camp addressed the burning health issues common among villagers viz Prevention and Management of Hypertension and Diabetes mellitus, Environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, Women health. Lecture session on Role of NSS in Rural society, Awareness to the youth about technological changes, First aid management for Snake bite and snake protection, Food and Health, Role of youth in development of Nation, Awareness about law to the people, Role of rural people in environmental sanitation, Safe Water and Ethical values among peoples.
The camp also dealt with special issues like health promotion among school children, Health promotion among Women and Geriatrics of Gejjiganahalli. Cleanliness of Govt. Primary school, Community hall campus, drainage and roads of Gejjganahalli. Sapling of plants at Govt. school premises and besides roads and organized health awareness rally on communicable disease and environment sanitation.
The volunteers also staged role play on various topics like tuberculosis, smoking, alcoholism, and health exhibition was organized on safe motherhood, prevention and management of diabetes, hypertension, anemia, protein energy malnutrition, malaria, and diarrhea. There were video shows through the use of advanced media technique like computer, slide projector, LCD projector which helped to make the program interesting, readily acceptable by the villagers as every program had approximately 200-250 villagers attending it. Another special feature of the camp was free health checkup camps (Medicine, Free diabetic and hypertension health checkup, Ophthalmology, Child Health and Ayurveda) and free drugs were distributed. About 800 people have got benefited from free health checkup services and 5 cataract patients had undergone free cataract surgery at JSS Hospital which was facilitated by NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing.
