JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru organized Faculty Development Programme on Life Skill Training for 3 days on 5th, 6th and 7th January 2026 from 9am to 5pm, at Sri Rajendra Auditorium. Resource persons were Ms. Neha and Ms. Jayalaksmi, Life Skill Training Coordinators, Department of Epidemiology, NIMHANS, Bengaluru. Participants were 30, teaching faculty of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and JSS School of Nursing, Chamarajanagar, Kollegala, Mysuru.

First day, 05.01.2026 – Morning session- Facilitation skills and Self awareness

Session started withenergizer, group activity with pen followed by lecture on facilitation skills and self-awareness. Activity was conducted with plot your multiple intelligence levels, ideal self and real self.

Afternoon session- Coping with emotions and Empathy:

Session began with lecture on empathy, followed by group activity with shoes, charting emotions and baloon activity.

Second day, 06.01.2026 – Morning session- Interpersonal skills and Effective communication:

Session started with lecture on interpersonal skills and effective communication, followed by group activity story building, one- and two-way communication and whispering.

Afternoon session- Coping with stress:

Session started with group activity Blind fold, priority matrix and identical items.

Third day, 07.01.2026 : Morning session- Creative thinking and Critical thinking:

Session started with group activity paper work – dress design, making star with sheet and puzzle.

Afternoon session-Problem solving and Decision making:

Session started with group activity guessing marbles, making star and circle with thread. The sessions were interactive, activity based and well received by thefaculty.

About the Workshop

Workshop on “Saving Tiny Hearts: Essentials of Pediatric Life Support – A hands on approach” aims to demonstrate skills in recognizing pediatric emergencies and performing effective lifesaving interventions. Facilitate simulation session independently with high quality pre-briefing, scenario and debriefing.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Develop optimal knowledge and skill in performing pediatric CPR
  2. Outline the concept of Circle of learning
  3. Demonstrates skills practice using checklists and skills evaluation
  4. Enhance decision making and critical thinking using case studies

Theory session on Dr. Sreekantham Sravya Sree on “Identifying the sick child”

The workshop commenced by conducting pre-test and with the brief introduction about the overall goal of the workshop to participants and Theory session on “Identifying a sick child” by Dr. Sreekantham Sravyasree, Senior Resident, JSS Medical College and Hospital,  Mysuru, followed by hands on skill training  by Dr. Ambika K, Associate Professor & HOD, Department of Child Health Nursing,   Dr. Rashmi N.T, Assistant Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing and Mr. Suneel Kumar. C N, Assistant Lecturer, Department of Child Health Nursing, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru and Ms. Usha S, Assistant Lecturer, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru. Pediatric Basic life support was demonstrated by the 4 resource persons under 4 simulation tables and hands on training were given to all the students.

JSS College of Nursing, JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, JSS College of Physiotherapy and JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru, Celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava on 15th November 2025 at 3pm in Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, Mysuru. The program started with invocation song followed by welcome speech by Mrs. Neetha Dalvi Nursing Tutor JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru.

The programme was started with Inauguration. The Chief Guest in the programme was Shri Anshi Prasannakumar, Kannada Rajyotsava Awardee Executive Editor Kannda Prapha, Mysuru and Shri R Mahesh Medical Education Director, JSSMVP Mysuru presided over the programme. Principals of all Health Science Institutes were present on the occasion. Cultural Programs were performed by students of the JSS Health Science Institution. The program concluded with vote of thanks at 7pm.

To mark the occasion of World Blood Donor Day 2025, the NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing, in collaboration with the JSS Blood Centre and Department of Pathology, JSS Hospital, organized a programme on 28th June 2025 at the Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, Mysuru.

With the blessings of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji and His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji “World Blood Donor Day 2025” was organized by Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre, Department of Pathology, JSS Medical College & Hospital, JSSAHER, Mysuru in association with JSS College of Nursing and School of Nursing, on Saturday the 28th of June 2025, 10.30 am at Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, M G Road, Mysuru.

The chief guest Dr. P C Kumaraswamy, District health Officer, Mysuru inaugurated the program. Dr.H Basavana Gowdappa, Vice-Chancellor, JSS AHER and Dr. D Narayanappa, Principal, JSS Medical College were the guests of honour. Dr. C P Madhu, Director, JSS Hospital presided over the function. Dr. Sheela Devi S, Professor and HOD, Pathology and Dr. Pallavi P, Professor and Chief Medical Officer, JSS Blood Centre, Prof. Ashwathi Devi MK, principal Jss college of nursing, Mrs Renukadevi, principle Jss school of nursing joined the inaugural program. Dr. Pallavi P warmly welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of World Blood Donor Day 2025 stressing on the objectives of the campaign. The slogan for WBDD 2025 campaign was ” Give blood, give hope: together we save lives”

Three regular voluntary blood donors – Mr. Mahesh K, Mr. Madan P and Mr. Vinod Kumar were felicitated on this occasion. Dr. H Basavana Gowdappa, Vice-Chancellor, JSS AHER inaugurated the Voluntary blood donation camp and the Physical Education Director Mr. Arjun donated the blood to mark the start. The voluntary blood donation camp was organised to encourage the voluntary blood donation and 80 donors participated in the camp.

The programme began with a formal felicitation ceremony honoring the highest voluntary blood donor, recognizing their consistent commitment to saving lives through blood donation. A voluntary blood donation camp was organized as part of the event, with 40 NSS volunteers actively participating and donating blood, reflecting the spirit of selfless service.

The event successfully promoted the message of voluntary blood donation and emphasized the life-saving impact of such contributions. It also encouraged more youth to become regular donors and raised awareness about the urgent and ongoing need for safe blood.

In an effort to integrate modern technology with core nursing values, a Virtual Competition focusing on Profession, Professionalism, Values, Ethics, and Bioethics was conducted for the IV Semester Nursing students. Organised by Subject Coordinator Dr. Bhavya SV, this initiative aimed to deepen students’ understanding of ethical frameworks and professional standards through creative digital media.

The competition was designed as a key pedagogical component of the IV Semester curriculum. Recognising the importance of soft skills and ethical decision-making in clinical practice, the students were tasked with translating complex theoretical concepts into engaging visual content.

The entire IV Semester cohort of the 2024-25 academic year participated enthusiastically. The students were divided into 15 teams, each assigned a specific thematic area.

Each team researched, scripted, and produced a video presentation to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world ethical application

In the presence of Principal Prof. Aswathy Devi MK, Dr. Ambika K, Dr. Rashmi P, Dr. Rashmi NT, Dr. Priyadarshini, faculty of JSS College of Nursing, and the presence of judges Mrs Mamatha G and Mrs. Munirathnamma K graced the event,. They were warmly welcomed at the commencement of the program to evaluate the video presentation based on content accuracy, creativity, and relevance to the nursing profession.

Following a rigorous review of all 15 presentations, the Best 4 Videos were selected and awarded for their excellence in representing complex bioethical and professional themes.

The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks, where a special note of gratitude was extended to the judges, Mrs. Mamatha G and Mrs. Munirathnamma K, for their time, expertise, and valuable feedback in selecting the winners. The competition proved to be a significant milestone in fostering professional integrity and ethical awareness among the 2024-25 batch.

INTRODUCTION

A one-day workshop on “Statistical Analysis through SPSS” was organized by JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru on 14th October 2025 as part of the Advanced Nursing Practice subject. The aim of the workshop was to enhance students’ understanding and practical skills in data analysis using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).

OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP

  1. To introduce the fundamentals of data entry and coding in SPSS.
  2. To provide hands-on experience in performing descriptive and inferential statistical analysis.
  3. To enable students to interpret SPSS outputs effectively for research and project work.
  4. To strengthen analytical and decision-making skills relevant to nursing research.

Inaugural Session

The workshop commenced with a formal inaugural session at 10.00am. Welcome address was delivered by Mrs Kusuma 1st year MSc (N), highlighting the importance of statistical literacy for evidence-based nursing practice. Mrs. Shashi Rekha, Biostatistician, was introduced by Ms. Poshitha 1st year MSc (N), acknowledging her expertise in biostatistics and data management.

The technical session conducted by Mrs. Shashi Rekha provided a comprehensive overview and demonstration of SPSS. The session covered the following topics:

  • Introduction to SPSS interface and data entry.
  • Data cleaning, variable labeling, and coding procedures.
  • Application of descriptive statistics (mean, median, mode, SD).
  • Conducting inferential tests such as t-test, ANOVA, chi-square, and correlation.
  • Interpretation and presentation of statistical results in research reports.

Afternoon Session

The post-lunch session focused on applied exercises and troubleshooting. Students were divided into groups to perform independent sample analysis, correlation, regression, and graphical presentation of data using SPSS. The resource person provided individual assistance and clarified queries related to data interpretation.

Feedback & Valedictory Session

Participants shared positive feedback appreciating the practical orientation and clarity of the sessions. They expressed that the workshop greatly enhanced their confidence in using SPSS for data analysis in their research projects. Certificate and token of gratitude was distributed to Resource person By Dr. Bhavya SV, Associate Professor& HOD Department of OBG, and the session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Kusuma 1st year MSc (N) expressing gratitude to the resource person, organizing committee, and participants.

Outcome of the workshop

  • Participants gained hands-on experience in SPSS operation and data analysis.
  • Improved understanding of selecting appropriate statistical tests for research.
  • Enhanced confidence in interpreting and presenting research findings.

The NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru is proud to report that two of our NSS volunteers were selected to participate in the State Level Pre–Republic Day Parade Selection Camp 2025–26, organized by the State NSS Cell, NSS Regional Directorate, Bengaluru, and the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka.

The camp was held at the Youth Training and Sports Department, Kumbalagodu, Bengaluru, from 16th to 17th September 2025. The selected volunteers from our institution were:

During the two-day residential camp, the volunteers underwent intensive training, including drill practice, physical fitness sessions, personality development activities, cultural screening, and leadership enhancement programmes. The camp aimed at identifying disciplined, confident, and dedicated NSS volunteers to represent Karnataka in the upcoming Republic Day Parade Camp 2026.

The participation of our volunteers in this prestigious camp reflects their exemplary commitment, discipline, and enthusiasm towards NSS activities. The NSS Unit and the institution appreciate their sincere efforts and congratulate them for bringing pride to RGUHS and JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru.

The Teachers’ Day celebration was held on 9th September with great enthusiasm and respect. The programme began with an Invocation Following this,Ms.Bhavana, student representative delivered a heartfelt speech, highlighting the invaluable role of teachers in shaping the future of students and guiding them not only in academics but also in life. Dr.Usha Thomas, addressed the gathering, appreciated the love and effort shown by the students in organizing the event. To add liveliness to the program, students organized a series of funny games for the teachers. The teachers enthusiastically participated, filling the hall with laughter, joy, and cheerful moments. These activities created a beautiful bond between teachers and students beyond the classroom.

The celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the teachers for their selfless service and to the students for making the day memorable.

During the programme Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathi Rajendra Mahaswamiji research Excellence award 2025 presented during occasion.

JSS College of Nursing SNA unit organised a combined celebration of Ganesha Chaturthi and Onam. The event was filled with devotion, creativity, and joy, reflecting the cultural richness and unity of the community. The program commenced with a traditional Ganesha Pooja, invoking Lord Ganesha’s blessings. A pookalam (floral carpet) compilation was conducted as part of Onam festivities Participants showcased creativity and teamwork by designing beautiful floral arrangements. The colourful pookalam symbolized prosperity and harmony, adding to the festive spirit.

SNA Unit, JSS College of Nursing Mysuru celebrated International Nurses Day 2025 on 16th May 2025 at 11am at Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium (SRCA), JSS Hospital, Mysuru in association with JSS Hospital and JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru. The gathering was welcomed by Mrs. Renuka Devi Principal, JSS school of Nursing Mysuru. The chief guest for the day was Dr.M.S Jayanth District Tuberculosis officer, Mysuru. The programme was presided by Sri R Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, and JSS MVP JSS Mahavidyapeetha. Mrs. Sudha Mruthyunjayappa, Chief Trustee of Dr. C N Mruthyunjayappa Trust was the Special invitee and Guest of Honour was Dr. C P Madhu. Director, JSS Hospital Prof. Aswathy Devi MK Principal JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru, Mrs. Janet Mathias, Chief of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital, Mrs. Renuka Devi, Principal, JSS School of Nursing, JSS Hospital Management, Nursing College/ School faculty and Hospital staff were present on the occasion. Six Nurses were honoured with the R & R award (Rewards & Recognition award) for the exallent services at JSS Hospital, Mysuru for the year 2025 by Dr. C. N. Mruthyunjayappa trust Award with certificates and cash awards and as a part of International Nurses Day We organized intercollegiate Essay and Poster Competition on 7th and 8th of the May 2025.Prizes were distributed. Total number of participants were 500 and the Programme was concluded by vote of thanks by Mrs. Sobharani Nurse manager. JSS College of Nursing.

We have Celebrated International Women’s Day on 10-3-2025 at 3pm, Shri Rajendra Auditorium on the theme Invest in Women: Accelerate Action. The Programme was inaugurated by the Chief guest Dr.Bhagyalakshmi A, Associate professor JSS dental college and Hospital and she addressed the gathering regarding the theme and importance of women’s empowerment in the society .Prof. Aswathy Devi. M.K, felicitate the guest speaker. Faculties and students were attended the programme . The programme ended by 4pm.
JSS College of Nursing in collaboration with JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing and JSS College of Physiotherapy, JSS School of Nursing celebrated 76th Republic Day on 26 .01.2025 at 8:30 am at JSS Health Institution premises. Sri. Mahesh R, Director, JSS Mahavidyapeetha. hoisted the National flag followed by National Anthem. All heads of Health Institutions, and faculty were present for the programme. The programme ended by 09.00 am.

JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru took part in cultural competitions during Suttur Jathra Mahostava on 26.01.2025. Students have participated in different categories of events like Classical group dance, group song, solo classical dance and solo classical song and won the prizes in Solo Classical Dance.

JSS Nursing Institutions (JSS College of Nursing and School of Nursing Mysuru, JSS college of nursing School of Nursing Chamarajanagar and Kollegala) had organized Health Exhibition on the theme on “Adolescent Health” at Suttur, Nanjungud taluk Mysuru District during Suttur Jathra Mahostava from 26.01.2025 to 31.01.2025. The exhibition was inaugurated by Sri. Sri Jaya Rajendra Swamiji, Dr. C G Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS MVP and Sri. Mahesh R, DME, JSS MVP.

The main objective of this exhibition was to create awareness among rural people regarding Adolescent Health. Exhibition were displayed regarding theme and topics covered as Reproductive health and prevention of STD’S and mental health, immunization, prevention of accidents, nutritional deficiencies. Video show and demonstration was also arranged to create the awareness on Menstrual cup.

Awareness on Adolescent health was assessed through questionnaire and majority 80% were expressed that exhibition was benefited and 20% were expressed that first time getting the information about adolescent health and 100% were felt that awareness exhibition was important to the society.

In view of World AIDS Day 2025 the department of Community Health Nursing, in- collaboration with NSS Unit, JSS College of Nursing organized poster competition for the P.B.B.Sc and M.Sc nursing students of JSSCON, Mysuru on 05/12/25 in 1st Year P.B.B.Sc Classroom based on the theme “Youth as a change makers in ending AIDS through community actions.” The programme started at 12:00pm with a introductory speech by Mrs. Sumana, HOD, Dept. of Community Health Nursing followed by a motivational talk by the guest Dr. K.B.Shiva Kumar, Medical Officer, ART Centre, JSS Hospital, Mysuru. A total of 10 participants presented creative and informative posters aligning with the theme. The posters were evaluated by Dr. K. B. Shiva Kumar and Dr. Rashmi P., Assistant Professor, JSS College of Nursing. The best posters were selected and awarded prizes. The event successfully encouraged student involvement in HIV/AIDS awareness and community-based initiatives.

The Department of Community Health Nursing organized a guest lecture on “Swasth Nari, Sashakth Parivar” for the IV Year B.Sc. Nursing students on 29/10/2025 at 11:00 am in the Rajendra Auditorium. The programme was organized with the objective of improving students’ knowledge regarding the newly launched government scheme aimed at empowering women as pillars of family health, encouraging healthier lifestyles, and reducing healthcare gaps at the community level.

The programme commenced with an invocation song, seeking blessings for the successful conduct of the event, followed by a brief and warm welcome to the gathering. The resource person for the session was Dr. Rama H V, Medical Officer, JSS Urban Health Centre, Bamboo Bazar, who delivered an informative and insightful lecture on “Swasth Nari, Sashakth Parivar.” The lecture highlighted the importance of strengthening women’s and children’s health through the implementation of large-scale health camps, comprehensive disease screening for conditions such as anaemia, tuberculosis, and non-communicable diseases, along with nutrition services, immunization, and counseling.

The resource person also emphasized the role of community health workers, digital health tools, and public–private partnerships in achieving the goals of the scheme and building a healthier nation. The session was interactive and enriched with practical examples relevant to community health nursing practice, enabling students to understand the real-time application of the scheme at the grassroots level.

The programme concluded at 12:30 pm with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person, faculty members, and students for their active participation and support. The students expressed that the guest lecture was highly informative and relevant to their curriculum. They appreciated the clear explanation of the scheme, practical insights shared by the resource person, and the emphasis on the role of nurses in implementing community-based health programmes.98 students benefited by the programme.

The Department of Community Health Nursing organized a Nutritional Programme in collaboration with Varuna Primary Health Centre and II Year P.B.B.Sc Nursing students on 20/06/2025 at 10:00 am at the Anganwadi Centre, Varuna. The objective of the programme was to improve the health status of children and to meet the nutritional requirements of children aged 0–6 years. The programme commenced with an invocation song, followed by a welcome address. Subsequently, a health assessment was conducted for all the children. This was followed by the preparation of a nutritious diet rich in iron and protein (protein balls), which was distributed to all the children. A total of 15 children benefited from the programme. The programme concluded at 12:30 pm with a vote of thanks. The programme was well organized and effectively addressed the nutritional needs of under-five children. Active involvement of nursing students enhanced learning through practical exposure. Such programmes contribute significantly to early childhood health promotion at the community level.

A brief health talk by Dr. Rama, Medical Officer, UHC, Bamboo Bazar further reinforced key messages on TB management. Around 40 students and villagers benefited from the session and actively participated in the discussion. Feedback from the headmistress, Gram Panchayat member, and Medical Officer indicated that the programme was informative and impactful. Overall, the activity effectively enhanced awareness, promoted empathy, and encouraged timely health-seeking behaviour related to TB.

The department of Community Health Nursing, JSS College of Nursing in- collaboration with Urban Health Centre, Bamboo bazar organized tuberculosis awareness role play at Government Primary School, Pillahalli and in the open street at Rajarajeshwari Nagar to educate school children, youth and community members on TB causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment. Permission was obtained from the school authorities, Gram Panchayat member, and Medical Officer of the Urban Health Centre. The programme began at 11:00 AM with a welcome address and an introductory talk by the nursing students. The 4th-year BSc Nursing students performed a well-prepared role play that highlighted early detection, treatment adherence, and use of the Nikshay Portal.

A guest talk was given by Dr. Rama, Medical Officer, UHC, Bamboo Bazar followed by motivational speech by Mr. Suneel Kumar, NSS Co-ordinator, JSS College of Nursing. Students actively participated by asking questions, showing good engagement. The programme concluded with a “No Tobacco” pledge led by the NSS team and JSS Urban Health Centre. Overall, the programme was well-received and proved effective in enhancing awareness among students about tobacco prevention.

The department of Community Health Nursing, JSS College of Nursing in- collaboration with NSS Unit, JSS College and Urban Health Centre, Bamboo bazar organized the school health education programme on the “Ill Effects of Tobacco” in Government High School, Medhar Block, Bamboo Bazaar, for 70 students. The session aimed to educate children on the harmful effects of tobacco, passive smoking, peer pressure, and healthy lifestyle habits. Permission was obtained from the school authorities, and the programme was planned with role play and visual charts for effective learning. The event began at 11:00 AM with an introduction by 4th-year nursing students, followed by a role play highlighting peer pressure and health consequences of tobacco use. Informative charts were used to further explain the dangers of tobacco and preventive measures.

A World Population Day rally was organized on 11 July 2025 by the Department of Community Health Nursing in collaboration with JSS Urban Health Centre, Bamboo Bazar, Mysuru. This year’s theme, “Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world,” guided the awareness activities. The event aimed to educate the community on population growth, family planning, sustainable development and responsible resource use. Formal permission was obtained, and placards were prepared by 4th-year B.Sc. Nursing students to convey key messages. The rally began at 10:45 AM from JSS UHC and covered Bamboo Bazar and Medhar Block, with active participation from nursing students, faculty, school children and healthcare staff. Participants displayed informative slogans on reproductive health and population issues, receiving positive engagement from local residents. The rally concluded at 11:30 AM, successfully promoting awareness and reaffirming the institution’s commitment to community health education.

As part of community nursing posting, students were posted in the Urban Health Centre located at 2nd Main, Medhar Block, Bamboo Bazar, Mysuru, on rotation basis everyday where Dr. H. V. Rama oriented students to the centre’s objectives, services and operational structure. The UHC aims to provide comprehensive healthcare to the urban slum population, train various categories of health-science students, implement national health programmes and support research activities. The centre is equipped with essential facilities including OPD, NCD clinic, dental and adolescent clinics, laboratory, immunization room, cold chain room, demonstration room and male and female wards. It functions as a first referral unit under the Department of Community Medicine. The staffing team includes medical officers, public health nurse, health inspector, lab technician, medico-social worker, administrative staff and support personnel. UHC offers a wide range of services such as— curative, preventive, laboratory, rehabilitation, emergency care, DOTS and referral services. The posting provided valuable insight into how UHCs strengthen urban primary healthcare and serve as crucial training centres for health-science students.

As part of rural community posting, students were posted at Varuna Primary Health Centre (PHC), located on Suttur Main Road, Varuna, Mysuru. the students are posted in varuna everyday on rotation basis. The orientation of PHC on first day was given by Dr. Dhananjaya B. P., Pharmacist of the PHC. The briefing covered the history of the institution, available services, staffing patterns and special units functioning under the National Health Mission. Varuna PHC oversees three subcentres—Varuna, MB Halli and Nandanahalli— collectively serving a rural population of 17,800. The PHC aims to provide affordable healthcare, implement national health programmes and deliver comprehensive services including antenatal care, immunization, management of chronic diseases, counselling, laboratory services and referral care. The infrastructure consists of OPD, pharmacy, procedure room, cold chain room, wards and dedicated service units. The centre is managed by a team comprising a medical officer, pharmacy officer, nursing staff, lab technician, health inspector and support personnel. Overall, the posting provided valuable insight into primary- level healthcare delivery in a rural setting.

The department of community Health Nursing organized the postnatal and immunization programme at Varuna PHC on 19 June 2025 with 4th-year BSc and 2nd-year PB BSc Nursing students as part of their community health nursing practice. The initiative aimed to educate postnatal mothers on exclusive breastfeeding, the national immunization schedule, postnatal exercises and balanced postnatal diet. Preliminary preparations included topic selection, obtaining permission, preparing teaching aids and aligning the programme with the PHC’s immunization day. Four education stations were organized covering breastfeeding guidance, immunization awareness, postnatal exercises and nutritional requirements. The programme began with a welcome address followed by an introductory session by Dr. Prasad, Medical Officer. Students actively participated, enhancing their communication and health education skills, while mothers showed positive engagement and willingness to adopt healthy practices. 12 mothers were benefited with the programme. The programme resulted in improved awareness among mothers and strengthened students’ competencies in public health nursing. Overall, it successfully promoted maternal and child health within the community.

A field visit to Princess Krishnarajamani Tuberculosis (PKTB) Hospital, Mysuru, was conducted on 25 June 2025 by the Department of Community Health Nursing to enhance students’ understanding of TB care and control. The institution, a key unit under the Mysore Medical College & Research Institute, serves as a nodal center for managing TB and drug- resistant TB cases. During the visit, staff provided detailed orientation on TB pathology, sputum collection, ZN and Auramine staining, GeneXpert/CBNAAT testing, Mantoux testing, and the functioning of the DOTS program. Students observed diagnostic procedures, patient care practices, and the structured management of MDR-TB in the 16-bed inpatient unit. The hospital caters to 840–1,300 patients daily and offers services including outpatient and inpatient care, free drug distribution, nutritional counselling, health education, and digital reporting through Nikshay. The visit provided valuable practical exposure to national TB control strategies and strengthened students’ competence in public health nursing.

daily supervised intake of ATT medications. The DR-TB Centre supports multi-drug resistant TB patients, serving as a nodal hub for 6–9 districts since 2012.

The Department of Community Health Nursing visited Sri Vasavi Shanthidhama, Alanahalli Extension, Mysuru, on 19 June 2025 as part of a community outreach initiative. The objectives of the visit included interacting with the residents, offering companionship, engaging them in recreational activities and conducting basic health assessments. The old age home, established in 1993, currently accommodates around 250 elderly residents, providing shelter, care and emotional support. Various activities such as cultural performances, interactive games and personalised interactions were organised to promote social engagement and emotional well-being. Systematic health assessments were carried out across five stations, covering vital signs, general examination, cognition and nutritional status. The visit provided valuable learning for students while bringing joy and comfort to the residents. Overall, the programme reinforced the significance of empathy, communication and holistic care in nursing practice.

Recognizing the importance of elderly health care, we conducted basic health check-ups which were systematically organized into 5 stations:

  • Weight & general examination: Recording weight, general health observation & complaints
  • Cognition assessment: Evaluation of memory, orientation & mental well- being

Beyond the organized activities, we visited each resident in their room. We sat with them, listened to their stories, offered comfort, & reassured them that they are not forgotten. Many expressed their gratitude for our presence & a few even shared life advice. These simple, yet powerful interactions were some of the most meaningful parts of the entire visit.

World Breast Feeding Week – 2025 was celebrated on 07-08-2025. Exhibition and Role play was organized on theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems” to create awareness regarding breastfeeding among the postnatal mothers who are attending the immunization clinic at Primary Health Centre, Varuna. Dr. Prasad, Chief Medical officer, Primary Health Centre, Varuna was the chief guest and inaugurated the program. 3rd year B Sc Nursing  and I Year PB BSc Nursing students participated in the program and created the awareness among the public through role play and Health Exhibition.

JSS College of Nursing in collaboration with Dept of Pediatrics and nursing unit of NICU, JSS Hospital organized Health exhibition and role play regarding importance of breast feeding on 04-08-2025 on occasion of World Breast feeding week.

Department of Child Health Nursing organized a Guest Lecture on “Pediatric Emergencies” on 05.08.2025 from 10.30am to 12.30am. Dr. Chethak KB, Associate Professor, Pediatrician, JSS Medical College and Hospital was the guest speaker and the program was inaugurated by chief guest at 10.15am.  The overall objective was to sensitize the students regarding the management of pediatric emergencies and nurse’s responsibilities.  3rd Year B. Sc (N) and   I Year PB BSc (N) and I MSc Nursing students attended the programme. Guest lecture was effective in enhancing the knowledge of the students.

About the Workshop

Workshop on “Skill Up to Save: Essential Newborn Care (ENBC) and Facility-Based Newborn Care (FNBC) in Action. A Hands-on Simulation in Neonatal care and Resuscitation skills” aims to demonstrate skills in practice of resuscitation skills, Essential newborn care and functional newborn care. Facilitate simulation session independently with high quality pre-briefing, scenario and debriefing. Workshop was conducted with expert speakers from Nursing institution as well as In-house experts for interaction sessions related to their domains. Sessions were organized to groom students for their prospective career and for enhancing the skills.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Develop optimal knowledge and skill in resuscitation, ENBC and FNBC
  2. Outline the concept of the Circle of Learning
  3. Demonstrates skills practice using checklists and skills evaluation

International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June every year to raise global awareness about the importance of yoga in leading a healthy life. The NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing organized a mass yoga program to observe this day and to encourage students and staff to integrate yoga into their daily routine.

The event was conducted on 21st June 2025 at the Basketball ground, JSS College of Nursing Campus, Mysuru.

The Chief Guest was Ms. Madhumita Setty, renowned Yoga Therapist and Wellness Consultant from Mysuru, who guided the participants through the significance and techniques of yoga. The program was presided over by Professor Aswathi Devi M.K., Principal, JSS College of Nursing.

The event commenced with welcome address by Mr. Sunil Kumar CN, NSS Program Officer, followed by Keynote address by Prof.Ashwati Devi MK, Principal, who highlighted the role of yoga in managing stress and enhancing well-being, especially for nursing professionals.

Ms. Madhumita Setty led an interactive yoga session, which included different hasanas, Pranayama Guided meditation techniques to improve breathing and calm the mind. The Chief Guest emphasized that integrating yoga into daily life can greatly benefit physical health and mental balance, which is crucial for healthcare professionals.

The NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru, organized an Intercollegiate Essay and Poster Competition on 20th June 2025, to commemorate World Blood Donor Day. The event was held under the global theme “Give blood, give hope: Together we save lives”, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and its role in saving lives.

Objectives of the Event: To motivate youth to become regular voluntary blood donors, to encourage creative expression on the life-saving impact of blood donation.to strengthen intercollegiate participation in a noble cause.

Participants from JSS Hospital, JSS Nursing college, JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, JSS College of Physiotherapy and JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru, around 25 students participated enthusiastically in both essay and poster competitions.

0n the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2025, The NSS Unit of JSS college of Nursing in collaboration with dept. Of Community Health nursing on15.06.2025, organised a awareness programme at Government High School,Medhar block, bamboo bazar, Mysuru.

The role play was performed by 4th year BSc nursing studentsand NSS volunteers which effectively demonstrated how youth can fall into the trap of tobacco usage and how they can resist it. Following this, a brief talk was given using the visual charts for better understanding. Students were encouraged to ask questions.

The programme was addressed by Dr. Rama H V, Medical officer JSS UHC, Mr. Sunil Kumar C N, NSS Programme Officer and Mrs.Pushpavathi, headmistress Govt.High school Bamboo bazar.

The programme concluded by taking a “No Tobacco” pledge led by the NSS team and JSS Urban Health Centre, and supported by the school headmistress.

The NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru, observed World No Tobacco Day on 31st May 2025 with the aim of raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and encouraging a tobacco-free lifestyle.

As part of the programme, a pledge-taking ceremony was conducted where NSS volunteers and students vowed to abstain from tobacco and promote a healthy lifestyle in their communities.

Following the pledge, NSS volunteers presented a short awareness video, highlighting the serious health risks associated with tobacco consumption, including cancer, respiratory diseases, and cardiovascular problems. The video also emphasized the importance of early prevention and the role of youth in advocating for a tobacco-free society.

The event successfully engaged students and created awareness on the urgent need to eliminate tobacco use for a healthier future.

The NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru, observed an awareness programme on “NI-KSHAY – UNITED TO END TB” on 31st, January,2025 at Suttur Jathra exhibition premises. The programme aimed to educate the public, especially school children, about Tuberculosis (TB) prevention and control as part of the nationwide effort to eliminate TB.

Mr. Sunil Kumar C.N., NSS Programme Officer, delivered an informative awareness talk to government school children who visited the exhibition. His talk focused on the causes, symptoms, transmission, and treatment of TB, emphasizing the importance of early detection and adherence to treatment.

The NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru, observed National Voters’ Day by Pledge-Taking Programme on 25th, January, 2025. Aimed at promoting electoral awareness and encouraging youth participation in the democratic process.

The event was graced by Prof. Aswathy Devi M.K., Principal, as the Chief Guest. In her address, she highlighted the significance of voting as a fundamental duty in a democracy and motivated students to be responsible citizens.

Mr. Sunil Kumar C.N., NSS Officer, delivered a talk emphasizing the role of young voters in nation-building, urging students to understand the power of their vote and actively participate in shaping the future of the country. Mr. Arjun, Physical Education Director, was also present and supported the initiative with his encouraging presence.

As part of the programme, around 200 students enthusiastically took the Voters’ Pledge under the national theme, “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure.” The event successfully instilled a sense of civic responsibility among the students.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reinforcing the importance of youth engagement in democratic processes.

JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru Department of Physical Education organized Annual Sports meet Energia 2025 on 22nd August 2025, during which students of JSS College of Nursing participated in various sports events and won prizes.

Indoor games were conducted from 05th,6th,11th,12th,18th,19 and 20th August games like Shuttle Badminton, Tennikoit, were conducted JSS Women’s college Saraswathi Puram. Volley ball and Throw ball were conducted in JSS health institutes premises. Mysuru, and events like Carrom and Chess for students held in Sri Rajendra auditorium. Inauguration of Energia- 2025 was formally held on 22nd August 2025 at 10:00 am at SJCE Campus Manasa Gangotri, Mysuru. Ms. V Ambika, National athlete Mysuru is the Chief guest Sri. R Mahesh Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha Mysuru, was the president and Prof. Aswathy Devi, Principal, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru, Physical Education Instructor SJCE TI Campus and faculty and students of JSS CON were present. After inauguration program outdoor games were conducted. The games conducted as 100mt, 200mt, 400mts 800mt running, 4×100 mts relay, long jump, tug of war, shot put, discus throw, three leg race for students, and shot put, discus throw, three leg race lemon and spoon for faculty. All events completed by 05:00pm. The programme ended by vote of thanks.

Department  of Nursing Foundation,  JSS College of Nursing has organized a workshop on “Simulation based training on Cardiac Emergencies- A Hands on Approach”  from 07/04/2025 to 09/04/2025. Workshop provided a premier platform for the Under Graduate Nursing students of various colleges to develop, refine, and apply their  knowledge and skills in  the realistic clinical situations of  various cardiac emergencies. A total of   325     delegates from various colleges of   Hassan, Madikeri, Virajpet, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru have registered for the workshop

Day 1

07/04/2025

Work shop started with registration at 8am. A total of 109 undergraduate students from Kodagu Institute of Medical sciences College of Nursing, (30), Sancta Matha College of Nursing, Virajpet (28) and Heritage College of Nursing, Mysuru (51) have under gone the hands on training on the first day of workshop. A pre-test was conducted for the delegates from 8.45am to 9am.

First session on “Primary and secondary assessment in cardiac emergencies” commenced from 9.00am to 9.30 am. Dr Adarsh SB, Asst Professor, Dept of Emergency Medicine, JSS Hospital was   the resource person for the session. Second session on Airway Management  and Basic Life support was  from 9.30am-10.15am. Resource person for the session was Dr Sarika M Shetty, Assoc Professor, Dept of Anaesthesia & Critical Care,  JSS Hospital.

Workshop Inaugural ceremony commenced from 10.15am. Dr Archana S, Chief Coordinator, Skill and Simulation centre, JSSAHER, Prof Aswathy Devi, Principal & Dr  Usha M Thomas, HOD Dept of Nursing Foundation were the guests for the inaugural session. Followed by the session, tea break was from 10.30am to 10.45am.

Third  session on Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS)and ECG Interpretation in Arrhythmias  commenced from 10.45.am. Dr Archana S, Chief Coordinator, Skill and Simulation centre, JSSAHER,  has conducted the session.

Hands on sessions commenced from 12.00noon. Delegates were divided in to 4 groups for these sessions. Hands on sessions continued after the lunch break. Skill session in each station was planned for 45 minutes. All delegates had opportunity to do return demonstration of the prescheduled skill in each station.  Hands on sessions were completed at 4.30pm  after the complete rotation of all stations . Resource persons for the hands-on sessions were Dr Adarsh  SB, Dr Sarika M Shetty, Dr Archana S, Dr Usha M Thomas, Dr Priyadarshini , Mrs Rashmi P, Mrs Sumana Yesupriya, Ms Usha S & Mrs Sahana SB. Workshop was concluded with a post test and feedback session from the delegates.

Day 2 – 08/04/2025

Work shop started with registration at 8am. A total of 106 delegates from JSS College of Nursing, Chamarajanagar (40) and Vidya Vikas College of Nursing, Mysuru (56) & Mano Nidhi College of Nursing, Chamarajanagar (10) have under gone the hands-on training on the second day of workshop. Pre-test was conducted for the delegates from 8.45am to 8.55am. First session on “Primary and secondary assessment in cardiac emergencies” by Dr Adarsh SB, Asst Professor, Dept of Emergency Medicine, JSS Hospital commenced at 9.00am. Second session by Dr Sarika M Shetty on Airway Management and Basic Life support was from 10am-10.55am.

Inaugural ceremony of Day 2 commenced from 11am. Sri R Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS MVP was the president for the ceremony. Dr Sunil Kumar, Prof & HOD, Dept of Cardiology, JSS Hospital was the chief guest. Dr Archana S , Chief Coordinator, Skill and Simulation Centre, JSSAHER, Prof Aswathy Devi MK, Principal & Dr Usha M Thomas , HOD Dept of Nursing Foundation were present for the inaugural session. Followed by the inaugural session, tea break was from 11.20am to 11.30 am.

Day 3 – 09/04/2025

Work shop started with registration at 8am. A total of 110 delegates from Heritage College of Nursing , Mysuru (25) Mother Theresa College of Nursing, Mysuru (05) & Rajiv College of Nursing, Hassan (80), have under gone the hands on training on the third day of workshop. Pre-test was conducted for the delegates from 8.45am to 9am. First session on “Primary and secondary assessment in cardiac emergencies ” by Dr Adarsh SB, Asst Professor, Dept of Emergency Medicine, JSS Hospital commenced at 9.00am.

Inaugural ceremony of Day 3 commenced from 10.15am. Dr Archana S , Chief Coordinator, Skill and Simulation centre, JSSAHER, Prof. Aswathy Devi , Principal, Dr Sarika M Shetty ,Dr Adarsh SB, & Dr Usha M Thomas , HOD Dept of Nursing Foundation were the guests for the inaugural session. Followed by the session, tea break was from 10.30am to 10.45 am.

Sessions by Dr Sarika M Shetty and Dr Archana S, were followed by the tea break. Hands on sessions for the 4 groups of delegates were conducted by the team of resource persons from 12.15pm to 4,30pm.

Post test was conducted at 4.35pm and valedictory ceremony of the workshop commenced at 4.45pm. During the feed back session of the programme, delegates have expressed that the well planned work shop with hands on sessions have given opportunity for all of them to develop and refine their critical clinical skills and stressed the need for future workshops based on simulation. After the valedictory, the work shop was concluded at 5.30pm.

The Induction Programme for the new batch of BSc Nursing, Post Basic BSc Nursing, and MSc Nursing students for the academic year 2025–26 was organized by JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru on 27th October 2025 at 11:30 AM. The programme aimed to welcome the new students, orient them to the college environment, and motivate them to embark on their nursing journey with dedication and enthusiasm.

The Inauguration was done by the dignitaries on the dais, marking the formal beginning of the induction programme.

The Special Invitee, Mrs. Janet Mathias, Chief of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital, Mysuru, addressed the gathering with an inspiring message. She shared her professional journey and emphasized the importance of empathy, clinical competence, and ethical practice in nursing.

Alumna, Mrs. Mrs. Jhancy Pavithra G Assistant Professor Charkos College of Nursing, Mysuru who shared her experiences and insights about her journey at JSS College of Nursing, motivating the new students to take pride in their chosen profession.

Feedback from outgoing student of JSS college of Nursing was then presented. Ms Mariya Ann Raju expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the faculty and the institution for shaping their academic and personal growth.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Sri R. Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha. He encouraged the students to transform their dreams into action and to strive for excellence in every endeavor. His motivational speech inspired students to uphold the legacy of the institution.

The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Rashmi N.T., Assistant Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing, who expressed sincere appreciation to all dignitaries, guests, faculty members, students, and staff for making the event successful.

The formal programme was followed by an orientation on Rules and Regulations of the college by Dr. Usha M. Thomas, Professor & Head, Department of Foundation Nursing, who briefed the students on academic expectations, discipline, attendance policies, and code of conduct.

ABOUT WORKSHOP

The hands-on workshop aims to provide Nursing Students with practical skills in handling surgical Instruments, Sutures and Equipments and Wound Dressing. Participants will engage in interactive sessions, simulations, and hands-on activities to develop competence in various monitoring techniques and technologies used in the operation theatre.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • develop optimal knowledge about surgical Instruments, Sutures and Equipments and Wound Dressing
  • demonstrate skills in types of Suture and suture removal techniques
  • demonstrate skills Wound Dressing

Total 102 students,  II year Bsc (N)  of JSS College of Nursing, were registered for the workshop. The workshop commenced by conducting pre-test and with the brief introduction about the overall goal of the workshop to participants followed by first theory session on Equipments for Surgical Procedures-Surgical drapes,   retractors and electrosurgical instruments, Sterilization Techniques for Surgical Instruments by Dr .Girish Kumar and  Dr. Arun Nayak.  Inaugural cermony started at10.30am.  Chief Guest was Dr. C P Madhu, Director, JSS Hospital expressed the need for organizing workshops which helps students to bridge the gap between theory and practice and highlighted the Importance and role of nurses in OT. Other Guests were Dr. Harish S  Professor &HOD, General Surgery and Archana S chief co -ordinator skill  Lab and President was Prof. Aswathy Devi. Followed by Hands on Suture and suture removal techniques Wound Dressing were demonstrated in five stations from 11.00am to 1.00pm. Post –test was conducted from 1.00pm to 1.15 pm and workshop was concluded by 1. 30pm.

Department of Medical surgical Nursing organized a Guest Lecture on “ECG INTERPRETATION” on 14.05.25from 10.00am to 11.30am by Dr. Ravikumar Y S Professor &HOD dept. of medicine JSS Medical College & hospital Mysuru. The overall objective was to sensitize the students regarding the importance ofECG Interpretation. For 2nd Year B.Sc.(N) I Year PBBSc(N) students attended the programme.

The session commenced with a welcome address followed by an introduction of the esteemed resource person. Dr. Sahana N. Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine. JSS Hospital and Medical College. Mysuru.

The speaker delivered a comprehensive lecture covering the content regarding Importance of ABG in clinical practice,Components of ABG report: pH, PaO₂, PaCO₂, HCO₃⁻, SaO₂, Base Excess,Normal reference values,Stepwise approach to ABG interpretation,Common acid-base imbalances: Respiratory acidosis/alkalosis, Metabolic acidosis/alkalosis,Clinical case discussions for better understanding,Importance of timely interpretation in emergency settings.At the end of the session Students gained enhanced knowledge and confidence in interpreting ABG reports.

Department of Medical surgical Nursing organized a Guest Lecture on “PREVENTION OF INFECTION AND NEEDLE STICK INJURY” on 13.05.25from 11.30am to 12.30am by Dr. Ranjitha Dept. of microbiology JSS Medical College & hospital Mysuru. The overall objective was to sensitize the students regarding the importance of PREVENTION OF INFECTION AND NEEDLE STICK INJURY. For 2nd Year B.Sc.(N) I Year PBBSc(N) students attended the programme.

The hands-on workshop aims to provide nursing students with practical skills and experience in orthopedic skills. Participants will engage in interactive sessions, simulations, and hands-on activities to develop competence in various orthopedic skills.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • demonstrate skills in application of cast and splint
  • demonstrate skills in first aid for musculoskeletal injuries

Inaugural of Workshop on “Hands on training on orthopaedic skills”

Dr. Siddalinga murthy, expressed the need for organizing workshops which helps students to bridge the gap between theory and practice and highlighted the Importance and role of nurses in orthopaedics skills

The workshop commenced by conducting pre-test and with the brief introduction about the overall goal of the workshop to participants followed by first theory session on “nursing process” by Mrs. Mamatha G, Associate professor, JSS college of nursing, followed by “Fracture management, immobilization, X- ray readings and traction theory session by Dr. Shreyas and Dr.Punith JSS Hospital and further Hands on training in Morning on Fracture management, immobilization and traction by Dr. Shashi Kumar and Dr. Promod, JSS Hospital and in the afternoon four stations were held Station 1:Safe transportation by Mrs. Rashmi P and Dr. Priyadarshini Station 2:Assisting the patient with immobility by Mrs. sandhya rani and Mrs.Ashwini  Station 3: muscle strengthening exercise by Ms. Sahana M M Thereby the Workshop was completed by 4:30 pm with Post test.

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, program was held on 4 th Feb 2025 to create awareness about Cancer and it’s treatment for the public in JSS Hospital, Mysuru Lobby . Department of Medical – Surgical Nursing Collaborated with JSS Hospital

Present on the occasion were Dr.Basavanna Gowdappa, Vice Chancellor, JSS AHER , Sri Mahesh , Director Medical Education, JSS MVP, Dr CP Madhu , Medical Suprintendent,JSS Hospital, Dr Kiran PK, Medical Oncologist, Dr.Ravi Krishnappa , Surgical Oncologist, Deputy Director Diagnostics Dr. Manjunath, Chief of Nursing Services Smt Janet Mathias , AO .Mr Lokesh .

Smt Madhuri Tatachari was the Chief guest on the Ocassion. On the Ocassion Cancer patients who got cured after taking treatment at JSS Hospital, Mysuru were felicitated . Dept of Oncology Nursing Staffs were also recognized for their good patient care on the Ocassion .JSS Hospital Nursing Staffs, JSS College of Nonclinical staffs & General Public were present during the program. Staffs of Dept of Dietics also informed the gathering the importance diet on the Ocassion.

We the Department of Psychiatric Nursing of JSS College of Nursing organized Guest Lecture on “Personality Development” on 15.11.2025 for nursing students. Resource person was Dr.Abhiram M Ajay Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Psychology JSS Hospital Mysuru. Total 93 students got benefited from the session. Students actively involved in the session asked questions and clarified their doubts.

JSS College of Nursing, Department of Psychiatric Nursing observed “World Mental Health Day” on 7.11.2025 in collaboration with Department of Psychiatry JSS Medical College and Hospital and JSS Urban Health Centre, Mysuru. Organized at Govt High School Medar Block, bamboo Bazaar, Mysuru

Dr Kishor M Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry JSS Medical College and Hospital was the Chief Guest for the program. Dr Rama Medical officer JSS Urban Health Centre, Mysuru and Mrs Sandhya Suresh President Inner wheel club and faculty of Department of Psychiatric Nursing were present on the occasion.

Dr Kishor M Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry JSS Medical College and Hospital addressed the gathering,150 High school students were benefited by the Guest Talk.

On the occasion of World mental health Day intercollegiate poster and quiz competitions were organized and prizes were distributed during the program.

We the Department of Psychiatric Nursing of JSS College of Nursing organized program at Viveka Hospital, Mysuru on topic “Changing the narrative on Suicide” on 26th September 2025.

The initiative was conducted in aiming to spread positivity, resilience, and awareness about mental well-being among patients about their strength to fight the thoughts of suicide.

The program witnessed active participation from all in-patients of Viveka Hospital, along with the dedicated staffs of the institution. The collective involvement created an encouraging and inclusive environment, strengthening the bond between caregivers and those receiving care.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

The event was designed to educate and inspire through engaging activities while ensuring accessibility for all participants. The schedule included:

  • A Skit based on the theme: Portraying a student’s life where even the tiny thoughts could lead their minds to suicidal tendency. Aiming that communication is the key to many solutions.
  • Theme Dance: A creative expression of the theme by taking the scenes of child abuse and women abuse towards suicidal thoughts and how we prevent them by care and love.

Workshop on “An overview on Psychiatric assessment with standardized patient” aims to a psychiatric assessment carried out for clinical and therapeutic purposes. Workshop was conducted with expert faculty from JSS College of Nursing, Dr Kishor M Professor HOD Psychiatry Department JSS Medical College and Hospital Mysuru. Sessions were organized to groom students for their prospective career and for enhancing the skills in Psychiatric assessment.

Objectives of the workshop

  • develop optimal knowledge and practice in Psychiatric assessment
  • establish a diagnosis and formulation of the individual psychiatric patient needs
  • to plan their care and treatment
  • enhance decision making and critical thinking using case scenarios

The workshop commenced by conducting pre-test and with the brief introduction about the overall goal of the workshop to participants followed by the session regarding psychiatric history collection by Dr Purohit Saraswati, Asst. Professor &Head Department of Psychiatric Nursing, JSS College of Nursing. She discussed regarding the various elements which are to be focused while collecting the history of a patient. This session helped the students to gain adequate knowledge regarding history collection along with demonstration by standardized patients. Next session was taken by Dr Kishor M Professor, Head Dept of Psychiatry Medicine, JSSMC &Hospital, Mysuru on Mental status Examination at 10:30-11:30am, session included practical assessment on Mental status examination with standardized patient. Next session was by Dr Sunitha PS Assistant Professor, JSS College of Nursing on Psychiatric Nursing Diagnosis. Post lunch session was started by Dr Priyadarshini Assistant Professor, JSS College of Nursing, session on Process Recording along with demonstration by standardized patients from 2pm-3pm. Next session was by Mr Nagendra Swamy C, Assistant Professor, JSS College of Nursing on Nursing management of common psychiatric disorder

Workshop was conducted with expert faculty from Ms Lidia Farnandez Assistant Professor Dept. of Clinical Psychology Cleret College Autonomous Bengaluru for interaction sessions. Sessions were organized to groom students for their prospective career and for enhancing the skills in Psychological assessment.

  • to plan their care and treatment
  • enhance decision making and critical thinking using case scenarios

Workshop was inaugurated at 10.30am on 02.06.2025. Dr. Kishor M Professor HOD Psychiatry Department JSS Medical College and Hospital Mysuru, Prof Aswathy Devi MK, Principal, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru were present during the ceremony.

Dr. Kishor M expressed the importance of Psychological assessment in clinical practice and the essential requirement of accurate assessment is to view patients holistically and to identify their real needs. Workshop was concluded by 1pm.

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, Department of Mental Health Nursing, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru organized Guest lecture on the theme “Tobacco Cessation” was organized on 5/06/2025 at Govt High School Bogadi Mysuru. The guest speaker was Dr. Kishore M Professor and of Psychiatry JSS Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru. The guest lecture started at 2pm and concluded at 3.30pm.

Followed by Guest Lecture Health talk was given by MSc Psychaitric Nursing students for 60 high school students regarding ill effects of Tobacco.

JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru, organized a workshop on “Write Right- Workshop on Plagiarism” on 04/01/2025 at Sri Rajendra Auditorium. Dr. Sulochanadevi BC, Assistant Professor, School of Public Health, JSS Medical College, JSS AHER, Mysuru was a resource person. Welcomed Dr. Sulochanadevi BC and the session on Plagiarism started at 10.20am. All faculty of college of nursing and post graduate students of II year, I year and Freshers participated in the workshop and got benefitted. Thanked all participants and resource person.

On 24th April 2025 organised Safe Motherhood Day at Seth Mohandas Tulasidas Maternity hospital, Mysuru. Program initiated with invocation song by Ms. Sharmila, IV year BSc Student. Mrs. Munirathnamma, assistant Professor, welcomed the gather. Administrative officer, Dr. Anuradha, Dr. Thejaswini, Dr. Pallavi, Dr. Suchithra, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Thasmin, Anaesthetist, and Mrs. Roopa Nursing Officer of SMT hospital and Dr. Bhavya SV, Mrs. Munirathamma K and Dr. Dhanalakshmi, faculty, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru and antenatal mothers inaugurated the program. Dr. Thejaswini addressed antenatal and postnatal mothers, highlighting important of Preconceptional care, prenatal care, and postnatal care. Role play on importance of antenatal care and its purposes for better outcome, performed by IV year BSc Nursing students, followed by health exhibition on Anaemia in pregnancy and its management explained by IV year BSc and MSc Nursing students. Around 60 mothers got benefitted out of this program. Program ended with vote of thanks and refreshment to guests, mothers and students.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru, organized an exhibition titled “A Comprehensive Display on Maternal Journey: Physiological and Pathological Transition in Obstetrics” on the 30th and 31st of October 2025.

Inauguration and Program Details

The program was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. Jayashree S, Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, JSS Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru.

Dr. Bhavya SV, Associate Professor and HOD, Department of OBG Nursing, and faculty Mrs. Munirathnamma K, Assistant Professor, Dr. Dhanalakshmi K, Assistant Professor, Dept. of OBG Nursing along with participants and student organizers were present during the inaugural ceremony.

The formal stage program commenced with Ms. Sharmila invoking the blessings of the almighty with a prayer song. Mr. Fayis, a IV year student, welcomed the gathering. The Key note address was given by Dr. Bhavya SV, who explained the two days of information the exhibition would share with students and its importance.

The Chief Guest addressed the gathering by expressing her happiness in bringing this knowledge sharing event. She also stated that it is everyone’s responsibility to care for women from preconception to postnatal even after to prevent maternal mortality rate. The inaugural program concluded with a vote of thanks given by Ms. Adlin, a IV year BSc student. All participants along with the Chief Guest witnessed all stations of the exhibition and appreciated the students for their innovative work.

Exhibition Focus

The exhibition provided a Report on Comprehensive Display: Physiological and Pathological Transition on Obstetrics. Day-1 focused on the normal events of obstetrics.

The comprehensive display covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Preconceptional Counselling
  • Basic terminologies used in obstetrics
  • Screening and identifying procedures in Obstetrics
  • Antenatal care – visits, diet, immunization, fetal development
  • Normal Labour – Phases of labour and Stages of labour with management
  • Postnatal care – Assessment, exercise, diet, immunization, breast feeding
  • Medications – safe and unsafe Categories of medications

Beneficiaries

The exhibition resumed to educate and bring insights among nursing colleges from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar. A total of 502 students got benefitted on the first day of the exhibition. Students attended from:

On Day 2 an academic exhibition focusing on abnormal conditions encountered during the antenatal, Intranatal, and postnatal periods was organized to enhance the clinical competence of nursing students.

The exhibition was systematically organized into three sections: Antenatal Abnormalities, Intranatal Abnormalities, and Postnatal Abnormalities. Students prepared models, charts, posters, and brief explanatory notes under faculty supervision.

  1. Antenatal Abnormalities

This section highlighted abnormal conditions during pregnancy, with emphasis on:

  1. Bleeding during Pregnancy
    • Abortion (types, causes, clinical features, nursing management)
    • Antepartum Haemorrhage (Placenta Previa and Abruptio Placentae)
    • Risk assessment, diagnostic criteria, and emergency management
  2. Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy
    • Gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, severe preeclampsia, eclampsia, and HELLP syndrome
    • Maternal and fetal complications
    • Evidence-based management and preventive strategies

Displays included flowcharts, treatment algorithms, and emergency response protocols.

  1. Intranatal Abnormalities

This section focused on common complications encountered during labour, including:

  1. Malpresentations
    • Breech, face, shoulder presentation, and transverse lie
    • Clinical assessment and appropriate obstetric interventions
  2. Cephalo-Pelvic Disproportion (CPD)
    • Classification, causes, diagnosis, and management
    • Significance of timely referral and decision-making
  3. Postpartum Haemorrhage (PPH)
    • Types, causes, prevention, and management
    • Active Management of the Third Stage of Labour (AMTSL)
    • Demonstration of PPH emergency kit and protocols
  1. Postnatal Abnormalities

This section covered complications arising after delivery such as:

  1. Puerperal Sepsis
    • Etiology, risk factors, clinical features, investigations, and management
    • Infection prevention and control measures
  2. Breast Complications
    • Engorgement, mastitis, breast abscess, and nipple fissures
    • Early recognition, breastfeeding techniques, and nursing care
    • Importance of Self Breast Examination
  3. Psychiatric Disorders During the Postnatal Period
  • Meaning, signs, symptoms, causes, and risk factors.
  • Early detection and timely referral.
  • Role of healthcare professionals in prevention, counselling, and management.

FDA Classification of Drugs During Pregnancy

A dedicated display area presented the FDA categories of drug use in pregnancy (A, B, C, D, X) with examples of commonly used obstetric medications, highlighting safety considerations and contraindicated drugs.

Students actively participated in all stages of planning and execution. They prepared educational materials, explained concepts to visitors, and demonstrated procedures using anatomical models. Faculty members provided continuous guidance and constructive feedback.

Beneficiaries

The primary beneficiaries were the nursing students, who gained enhanced understanding of critical obstetric emergencies through visual aids, models, and interactive demonstrations. A total of 301 students got benefitted on the second day of the exhibition. Students attended from:
