Activities of SNA

SNA unit of JSS COLLEGE OF NURSING has organised events during lockdown to create awareness regarding Covid-19 and importance of Lockdown during Covid-19 among nursing students and others,
Events are planned on 29/04/2020 and 30/04/2020.

Primary objective: 1.To creates awareness regarding Covid-19 and importance of Lockdown during Covid-19.

2. International Nurses Day 2020
JSS College of Nursing celebrated International Nurses day 2020 on 12th May 2020 at 11am in Board room, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru. The programme was addressed by Sri. R. Mahesh, Director of Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha. Key note address on Nurses day was given by Prof Sheela Williams Principal JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru. Ms Vivya dedicated a song for health care professionals on Nurses Day.

3. WEBINAR ON IMPORTANCE OF EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITY
Webinar was conducted on IMPORTANCE OF EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITY on 04/06/2020 at 11 am. Guest speaker was Mrs Andriya Bineesh Mathew Agency Manager at Bharti AXA Life insurance company. First year BSc Nursing students were benefited by the Webinar.

JSS College of Nursing in collaboration with JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, JSS College of Physiotherapy, JSS School of Nursing, celebrated 74th Independence Day on 15th August 2020 at 8:30 am at JSS Medical Institutions premises. The Chief guest for the programme was Sri R Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha hoisted the National flag. Fallowed by addressing the gathering by the Chief Guest.Patriotic song sung by the JSS School of Nursing faculty. All head of Medical Institutions and faculty were present in the programme. The programme ended by 9:30 am with distribution of sweets to everyone gathered.

NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing observed World Environment Day 2020 on 5.6.2020 by planting sampling in the college by Principal and faculty of college.

NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing motivated students by giving one student one sapling challenge at their home or area. Students activately participated and send the picture and videos of sampling to us, nearly 500 saplings planted in their homes/ area and also encouraged others to participate in go green activities.

Dedication Ceremony of 23rd batch of Basic Bsc Nursing was held on 29th of Febraury 2020at 11am at Sri RajendraCentenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital,Mysuru.

Dr. SurinderSingh ,Vice Chancellor, JSS AHER was the Chief Guest and other Guests Were Lt.Col. Hemalatha Raja Gopal, Principal, College of Nursing, Command Hospital, Dr. D G Nagaraj, Health Officer, Mysuru City Corporation, Mysuru, Mrs. Janet Mathias, Chief of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital Mysuru. Sri. Mahesh R presided the programme. Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College Of Nursing Welcomed the gathering.

Smt Janet Mathias CNS JSS Hospital carry the burning Lamp represent the Lamp of service and Mrs. Mamatha G Class Co-ordinator carry the burning Lamp represent the Lamp of Education. I year Basic BSc Nursing students lit their lamps of education and service. Mrs. Aswathy Devi, Associate Professor recite the Florence Nightingale pledge to the students. 100 students took oath in the ceremony.Dr. Surinder Singh spoke about significance of Lamp Lighting Ceremony he congratulated the nurses as WHO decignated the 2020 as the ‘Year of Nurse and Midwifery’ in honor of 200th Birth Anniversary of Florence Nightingale. Dr. D G Nagaraj,appreciated the discipline among the nursing students. Lt. Col. Hemalatha Raja Gopal spoke about the significance of 200th Birth Anniversary of Florence Nightingale.Post lunch Parent- Teacher meeting was conducted to discuss on the progress of new students.

Department of Community Health Nursing organized medical camp at Kiralu village on 12.02.2020. The camp started at 10am to 2pm. Total 69 patients attended the camp. Patients were benefited with CBG monitoring, blood pressure monitoring and check up by physician from Department of General medicine. Nine cases of cataract were identified and referred them to JSS Hospital for follow up and surgery.. Other cases diagnosed were diabetes, hypertension, arthralgia, migraine, gastritis, COPD, upper respiratory tract infection etc. Medications like paracetamol, ranitidine, CPM, and analgesics were distributed to the patients on the same day free of cost.
Department of Community Health Nursing organized dental camp at Kiralu village on 12.02.2020. The camp started at 9.30 am to 2 pm. The dental team consisted of 12 members including two doctors, PG and intern students and technicians. Total 79 patients benefited from the program. Majority of the patients were diagnosed with dental carries. Other cases identified were buccal pit, retained deciduous, ulcer, retained tooth stung etc. Nine tooth extractions, twelve scaling and 19 restoration procedures were performed. Medications like analgesics and antibiotics were distributed to the patients. Patients who require advanced treatment were referred to JSS dental college and JSS hospital, Sutturu.
JSS College of Nursing in collaboration with JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, JSS College of Physiotherapy, JSS School of Nursing and JSS Hostel for Physically Handicap celebrated 71st Republic Day on 26 .01.2020 at 8:30 am at JSS Health Institutions premises. The Chief Guest was Captain Ajay Dudeja, Indian Air Force who hoisted the National flag, National Anthem was sung followed by a patriotic song sung by the students of all the Institutions and a dance by students of Physiotherapy College. The Chief Guest of the programme addressed the gathering. All heads of Health Institutions, faculty and students were present for the programme. The programme ended by 09.30 am. Sweets was distributed to everyone gathered.

JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru organized Annual Sports meet Energia-2019 on 14th and 15th December 2019, during which students and faculties of JSS College of Nursing participated in various sports events and won prizes.

Indoor games were conducted from 20/12/2019 to 24/12/2019, games like shuttle and tennikoit conducted in JSS Women’s College ground Saraswathipuram Mysuru, events like carom and chess for students and teachers held in JSS College of nursing Mysuru.   Inauguration of Energia- 2019 was formally held on 14th December at 10 am at JSS Public School JP Nagar, Mysuru. Chief Guest was Ms. Reena George, National athlete and Prof Sheela Williams Principal JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru. After inauguration program outdoor games were conducted. The games are,100mt, 200mt, 400mts running, 4×100 mts relay, long jump, high jump, tug of war, cricket, slow bike race, short put, discuss throw, lemon and spoon ,volley ball and throw ball for faculty and students.

The Overall championship of Energia – 2019-20 was won by 4th years BSc (N) students, individual championship among girls is Ms. Tesna sajan 4th years BSc (N) and among boys, Mr. Sonam PBBsc (N). On 15th December 2019 at 5pm prices were distributed to winners and the programme ended by vote of thanks.

JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru along with 2nd year PB BSc College of Nursing organized In-Service Education virtually on “Perioperative Nursing” for 2 days on 19th and 20th August 2020.

On day 1, 19.08.2020 Prof .Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing inaugurated the programme. Following that key note address was given by Mrs Usha M Thomas, Associate professor, JSS College of Nursing. First insightful scientific session on preoperative Nursing was dealt by Prof. Sheela Williams. Second session was on Surgical Hand Washing by Ms. Pempa Lhamo, II Year P B BSc Student and the next session was by Ms. Shruthi M, II Year P B BSc Student regarding Personal Protective Equipment.
Afternoon scientific session was on “Role of Circulating nurse and scrub nurse” by Mrs. Deepa V, staff Nurse, JSS Hospital, Mysuru. This was followed by an informative session on “Basics of Anaesthesia” by Dr. Archana KN, Professor, Department of anesthesiology, JSS Hospital, Mysuru.
Second day started with video show regarding “Preparation of post operative unit” following that we had a scientific session on “post operative nursing care” by Mrs. Glaini George, Staff nurse, JSS Hospital, Mysuru. A total of 140 students (2nd year and 3rd year B Sc Nursing students) attended the In- service educational programme.

The Pediatric Nursing Department organized webinar to observe “World Breastfeeding week-2020” on 06.08.2020 at 2:30 pm. Dr. Deepthi Thandaveshwara , Assistant Professor, Department of Paediatrics, JSS Medical College and Hospital Spoken about the theme “ Support Breastfeeding For a Healthier Planet” and Importance of Breastfeeding, for the benefit of 3rd Year BSc, and 1st PBBSc Nursing Students of JSS College of Nursing. Students actively participated in the webinar and got benefitted.

Online induction programme was conducted on 10-09-2020 at 10.30 am for our first year students ie 33rd batch nursing students at JSS School of nursing,Mysuru.
Programme started with an Inauguration by lighting the lamp by our Principal Smt.D.N.Renukadevi along with teachers and student representatives. Student representatives from Mysuru had attended the programme along with their parents and other students attended the programme through Zoom app.
Principal Smt.D.N.Renukadevi in her inaugural speech greeted students and expressed her concern towards care of students in this pandemic period. Madam instructed the students regarding opting online classes during this chaos.
Programme started with an invocation and the gathering was welcomed by Mrs.Priyaranjani N and vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs.Manasa M and anchored by Mrs.Neetha Dalvi S.
Psychiatric Nursing Department of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru had organized a Webinar on “Early identification of risk factors in prevention and management of Suicide” for school teachers on 19.09.2020 from 11 am to 12 noon as a part of World Suicide Prevention Day which is observed on 10th September 2020.
Resource person for the Webinar was Dr. Kishor M, Associate Professor, JSS Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru. Total 110 participants attended the webinar. Participants were School teachers of JSS Public school of Siddarthanagar and JP Nagar, faculty of JSS School and College of Nursing. All participants actively involved in the webinar, asked questions and clarified their doubts. Session concluded at 12.15 pm. A checklist on “Warning Symptoms of Suicide” for school teachers was uploaded on google. A Concise Hand book of Suicide Prevention was mailed to the School teachers for their referral. Teachers were requested to fill the checklist and to contact Dr. Kishor M through email if they identified any signs of depression or change in behavior in students.

Psychiatric Nursing Department of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru had organized a Webinar on “Alzheimer’s Dementia” for nursing students on 21.09.2020 from 9.30 am to 10.20 am as a part of World Alzheimer’s Day which is observed on 21st September 2020.
Resource person for the Webinar was Dr. Vinay HR, Assistant Professor, AIMS,Adhichunchangiri, Mandya. Total 100 participants attended the webinar. Participants were III Year B.Sc Nursing students and faculty of JSS College of Nursing. All participants actively involved in the webinar, asked questions and clarified their doubts. Session ended at 10.30 am.

Psychiatric Nursing Department of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru observed World Mental Health Day on 10th October 2020. Objective of the webinar was to reduce COVID 19 anxiety, stress and fear and to improve the coping skills of nursing students by engaging in activities such as exercises, meditation etc.
Resource persons for the Webinar were Dr. Kishor M, Associate Professor, JSS Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru and Dr.Bheemsain Tekkalaki , Associate professor, KAHER, JN Medical College, Belgavi . Dr.Kishor M, unfolded the theme of Mental Health Day 2020 – “Greater Investment, Greater Access “. Dr.Bheemsain Tekkalaki addressed the participants regarding COVID-19 anxiety: Coping with stress, fear and worry. Total 100 students attended the webinar. Participants are 3rd year B Sc and 2nd year P B B Sc nursing students and Faculty of JSS College of Nursing. All participants actively involved in the webinar, asked questions and clarified their doubts. Session concluded at 12 noon.
As a part of this celebration, Collage Competition was organized on COVID-19 Anxiety: Coping with Stress, Fear and Worry for nursing students of JSS College of Nursing. The winners are as follows

Prof. Mr. Venkatesh, CEO, Raman Institute of Information Technology, Mysuru and Dr. Milka D Madhale, Associate Professor, Dept.of Nursing, Arsi University, Assella, Ethiopia were the Guests and Sri Mahesh R Director, Medical Education Division JSS Mahavidyapeetha presided over the programme. Mrs.Mamtha G was the Master of ceremony and Mrs.Aswathi Devi, Associate Professor, JSS College of Nursing delivered the welcome speech. Alumnae Feedback was given by Mr. Stephen Bojan Nurse Practioner, Texas Health Physician Group, Texas and Mrs. Deepa Soorya, Ph.D Scholar Stanford University, North Hollywood. Outgoing Batch students Ms. Rugma & Mr. Sudarshan have given their feedback about the college. The programme ended by Vote of thanks by Mrs Rashmi P Asst. Lecturer. Mrs. Usha M Thomas and Mrs. Ambika K discussed regarding the college and hostel details. Orientation Programme was organized from 05.10.2020 to 10.10.2020. The program was live on Facebook.

The program started with an invocation song by Ms.Sindhu and welcome speech by Mrs Renukadevi Principal JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru.
The programme started with lighting the lamp,The guest for the programme was Shri Rajashekhar Kadambha, Senior Theater Artist, Mysuru. Shri R Mahesh Medical Eduaction Director,JSSMVP Mysuru presided over the programme. Principals of all Institutes were present on the occasion.The program ended with vote of thanks by Mrs Tejaswini Lecturer JSSCPT,Mysuru.
Ms Vivya Student of the JSS College of Nursing and Faculty of JSS School of Nursing were able to spread the fragrance of Kannada language with their melodious songs.
The significance of the day was highlighted by the Guest in his speak and also spoke on heritage, culture, history of Kannada Rajyotsava in Karnataka state.
