Activity Report of 2020 – 21

Medical Surgical Nursing Department of JSS College of Nursing organized a seminar on “Use your Heart to connect” on 30.10.2021 at 10am for 3rd year BSc Nursing students and faculty. Dr. Sunil Kumar S, Associate Professor, Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiology of JSS Hospital in his address emphasized on risk factors for cardiovascular disease and how to prevent it. He also emphasized on how to connect our heart with public to create awareness by using telemedicine facility. Mrs. Anitha VN, Asst. Professor ensured in coming years JSS College of Nursing will take up research projects in order to create awareness. Nearly 92 students of 3rd year BSc and 6 faculty attended the seminar and expressed it was very useful to them.
Dedication Ceremony of 24th batch of Basic B.Sc. Nursing was held on 21st of September 2021 at 03.00pm in Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, Mysuru

Mrs. Maria Theresa Shanthi, Chief of Nursing Services, Colombia Asia Hospital, Unit of Manipal Hospital, Mysuru was the Chief Guest and Mrs. Janet Mathias, Chief of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital Mysuru was the Special Invitee. Mrs. Aswathy Devi M K, Principal, JSS College of Nursing and Sri. R Mahesh, Director Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidypeetha was presided the programme.

Mrs. Janet Mathias CNS, JSS Hospital was carried the burning Lamp represents the Lamp of service and Mrs. Uhsarani Associate Professor, Mrs. Anitha V N, Assistant Professor, Mrs. Rashmi P, Assistant Lecturer were carried the burning Lamp represents the Lamp of Education. Mrs. Mamatha G Assistant Professor recite the Florence Nightingale pledge to 1st year B.Sc. Nursing students. Ninety-eight students took oath in the ceremony. Mrs. Maria Theresa Shanthi spoke about significance of Lamp Lighting Ceremony and congratulated the students for choosing the nursing profession. Programme was live on Facebook page

Medical Surgical Nursing Department of JSS College of Nursing observed World Heart Day 2021 on 4th October. A guest lecture was organized on the topic: “Ayurvedic Pulse for Heart”. Dr. Beena , Reader, Department of Kayachikitsa, JSS Ayurved Medical College, Mysuru explained the necessity of protecting the heart by practicing healthy life styles. She also described the various risk factors and preventive measures practised in Ayurveda to prevent cardiovascular disease. Nearly 129 students of 2nd year BSc and 1st year PBBSc nursing students attended the guest lecture and students expressed it was very useful to them.

World Cancer Awareness Month was observed on 24.09.2021 by Medical Surgical Nursing Department of JSS College of Nursing, by conducting painting competition for health care professionals on the topic” Cancer: Early detection saves lives”. Thirty health care professionals (students, faculty and staff nurses) from JSS Hospital, JSS Ayurveda Medical College, JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru & Chamarajanagar and JSS College of Nursing participated in this competition. Following participants bagged the prizes,

PAYANA-2021: Farewell for final year students of BSc and P B BSc Nursing was organized on 29th September 2021 by 3rd year BSc and 1st year P B BSc Nursing students. The programme started at 3.30pm with memorable tribute to outgoing students. Various cultural programmes and games were organized and everyone enjoyed it. Memento was distributed to all outgoing students from college. Students, faculty and the Principal shared their sweet memories with students. Programme ended with high tea.

Department of Mental Health Nursing, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru observed World Suicide
Prevention Day on 11th September 2021.
As a part of this program seminar was organized on the theme “ Creating Hope through Action”.
The seminar started at 10.15 am and concluded at 11.30 am. Resource person for the seminar
was Dr.Shivanand Manohar J, Assistant Professor, JSS Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru.
Total 130 participants attended the seminar. Participants were III year BSc and II year PBBSc
nursing students and faculty of JSS College of Nursing.

Psychiatric Nursing and community Health Nursing Department of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru had organized a Webinar on “Commit to Quit” from 10.00 am – 10.45 am on 31.05.2021.

Resource person was Dr. Palanniappan Ramanthana, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgical oncology, M S Ramaiah Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore. Total 100 participants attended the webinar. Participants were III Year BSc, II PBBSc Nursing Students and Faculty of JSS College of Nursing. .

Video Making Competition was organized for nursing students on the theme “Commit to Quit”. .

Department of Mental Health Nursing, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru organized a Webinar “Mental health and Pandemic” on 04.06.2021.The webinar started at3.00 pm and concluded at 04.00pm. Resource person for the webinar was Dr. Reena George, HOD Department of Psychiatric Nursing, Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Kozhikode. Total 100 participants attended the webinar. Participants were I Year BSc Nursing Students and faculty of JSS College of Nursing.

NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing observed World Environment Day 2021 on 5.6.2021 by planting sampling in and around home of faculty and students.
NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing motivated students by giving one student one sapling challenge at their home or area. Students activately participated and send the picture and videos of sampling to us, nearly 400saplings planted in their homes/ area and also encouraged others to participate in go green activities.
NSS Unit also organised photography competition on World Environmental Day Theme – Ecosystem Restoration for faculty and students. Students actively participated in the competition.

NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing observed International Yoga Day 2021 on theme ‘Yoga for Wellness’ and the focus will be on practising yoga for physical and mental well-being on 21.6.2021 by conducting webinar and yoga live sessions to faculty and students of college from 7.30AM to 8.30AM.
NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing organised webinar in association with Department of Physical Education on 5th June 2021 on topic ‘Basic Yogic Exercise and Pranayama for Immunity Boost’ from 8.30AM to 9.30AM by Ms. Shilpa, Yoga Instructor, Yoga Bhushana PrabodaPatra Awardee, Mysuru to faculty and students of college from 7.30AM to 8.30AM. Nearly 100 students and faculty of college participated in the webinar.

Department of Mental Health Nursing, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru observed International day against drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26 June 2021.
As a part of this program webinar was organized on the theme “Share facts on drugs and save lives” . The webinar started at9.30 am and concluded at 10.30am. Resource person for the webinar was Dr. Mohan Sunil Kumar, Psychiatrist, Augmenta Health Care Private Limited, Bangalore. Total 100 participants attended the webinar. Participants were III Year BSc and II year PBBSc Nursing Students and faculty of JSS College of Nursing.
We had also organized Intercollegiate Digital Collage Competition on the same theme. Total 7 College and School of nursing participated in this competition. 15 participants were present and best 3 collage were selected and the winners are as follows:

2nd prize- Ms Ruby biju and yeshi wangmo from Suraksha college of nursing JSS College of Nursing
3rd prize – Mariya jose, Vikram College of Nursing.

Department of Community Health Nursing,JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru organized a Webinar “Pranayama in Covid-19”on 09.06.2021.The webinar started at2.00 pm and concluded at 03.20pm.Resourceperson for the webinar was Dr. Anitha H, Assistant Professor and HOD, Department Clinical Physiotherapy, Govt. Nature Cure and Yoga Medical College, Mysuru. Total 100 participants attended the webinar. Participants were II Year BSc Nursing Students and faculty of JSS College of Nursing.

SNA Unit, JSS College of Nursing Mysuru celebrated International Nurses day 2021 on 12th May 2021 at 10:30am virtually in zoom platform. The gathering was welcomed by Mr Amogh Salis Assistant Lecturer,JSS Con Mysuru.
The Guest of Honor for the day was Mr Thippeswamy Billahalli Lead NurseDepartment of Respiratory Medicine Homerton University Hospital London ,The programme was presided by Sri. R. Mahesh ,Director of Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha. Mrs Aswathy Devi MK Principal JSS College of Nursing,Mysuru present on the occasion.

SNA Unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru had organized a Webinar on “Nurses: A Voice to Lead-A Vision for future healthcare” BSc Nursing students on12.15.2021 from 10:30 am to 12 noon as a part of Nurses’s Day -2021.

Resource person for the Webinar was Mr Thippeswamy Billahalli Lead Nurse Department of Respiratory Medicine Homerton University Hospital London.Resource person talked about current scenario of Covid-19 situation in India and need for Health care system. Total 100 participants attended the webinar. Participants were BSc Nursing students and faculty of College of Nursing. All participants actively involved in the webinar, asked questions and clarified their doubts. Session concluded at 12 noon. 1. Inservice Education

Department of Community Health Nursing organized an in-service education programme on 18.03.2021 at Balbhavan, Mysuru from 10.30am – 11.30 am for Anganwadi workers. The topics covered were miles stone of growth and development, growth chart, and early identification of malnutrition among under-five children. Lecture cum discussion was held with charts and illustration on maintaining of growth chart was done. The session was concluded at 11.30 am.

2. Medical Camp

Department of Community Health Nursing conducted Medical camp at Mosambayana Halli village on 03.03.2021. The camp started at 10am to 3pm. Total 85 patients attended the camp. Patients were benefited with CBG monitoring, blood pressure monitoring and check up by physician from Department of General medicine and Dept. of Ophthalmology. Twenty cases of cataract eligible for cataract surgery were identified and referred them to JSS Hospital. Six patients were willing for surgery and they were admitted in the hospital on the same of the camp. Cataract surgery were done on the next day and they were taken back to the village after surgery. Follow up visit was done by the 4th year BSc and 2nd year PBBSc nursing students. Other cases diagnosed were diabetes mellitus, hypertension, arthralgia, migraine, gastritis, COPD, upper respiratory tract infection etc. Medications like paracetamol, rantac, analgesics antihypertensive drugs, calcium tablets, iron and folic acid tablets etc.were distributed to the patients on the same day free of cost. Health education on prevention and management non-communicable disease was also conducted.

3. Health Awareness Program

Department of Community Health Nursing organized role play on the topic COVID 19 infection and its prevention at Medar block, Bamboo Bazaar on 19.03.2021 at.10.30 am. Prior permission was taken from Mandi Mohalla police station to conduct the program. Emphasis was given on the prevention of Covid 19 infection like wearing of mask, social distancing, hand washing and also explained the importance of taking vaccine. Medical Officer ,JSS Urban health Centre was present. Many publics got benefitted from the role play. surgery along with medical cases. The program concluded at 11.15am.

1. Report of Guest lecture on Good Clinical Practice

Research cell of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru organized Guest Lecture for all faculty on 05th March 2021 on the topic ‘Good Clinical Practice’. Dr. MN Sumana, Professor, Department of Microbiology, JSS Medical College and Hospital in her guest lecture emphasized on the need for Good Clinical Practice to maintain the International Standards in Research. The discussion was very useful to clarify the queries and everyone expressed that the session was very useful to have a research culture in the institution.

2. Report of Departmental Workshop

Psychiatric Nursing Department of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru had organized a Workshop on “Psychiatric Rehabilitation” from 10.00 am – 12 noon on 20.03.2021.

The resource person for the Workshop was Dr. Abhimanyu Chandak, Psychiatrist, Viveka Hospital Mysuru. Total of 130 participants attended the workshop. Participants were III Year BSc, II PBBSc nursing students, and faculty of JSS College of Nursing. Pre-test and post test was conducted for all the participants.

All participants actively involved in the workshop asked questions, and clarified their doubts. The session ended at 12 noon.

3. World Health Day – 2021

As a part of WORLD HEALTH DAY 2021JSS College of Nursing,Department Of Community Health Nursing Organised guest lecture on 9/4/2021 at Rajendra Auditorium on the theme Building a fairer, healthier world for everyone”. The speaker was Dr.Praveen Kulkarni, Associate Professor, Dept of Community Medicine and Public Health JSS Medical college, Mysuru.The program started at 2.30pm to 3.30 pm. 4th year Bsc Nursing students benefitted from the program.

JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru organized International Women’s Day -2021 on 13th March 2021, during this event students of JSS College of Nursing participated in competition in Intercollegiate Women Throw ball Tournament.

SNA Unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru had organized a Webinar on “Women in Leadership-Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world” for IV Year BSc Nursing students on 13.03.2021 from 10:30 am to 12 noon as a part of International Women’s Day 2021. Prize distribution was done for the winners of Intercollegiate Women Throw ball Tournament. Organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021.Winner are from JSS College of Nursing and runner up by JSS College of Speech and Hearing.

Resource person for the Webinar was Mrs Kusuma Ayarahalli Journalist and Writer. Total 100 participants were attended the webinar. Participants were IV Year BSc Nursing students and faculty of College of Nursing. All participants actively involved in the webinar and clarified their doubts. Session concluded at 12.15 pm.

NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing Organized World Aids Day 2020, the theme was, ‘Global Solidarity, Resilient HIV services’ in association with District Administration, Mysuru, District Health Office, Mysuru, KSAPS, Bengaluru and DAPCO, Mysuru on 1st December 2020 at Sri Rajendra Old Auditorium, Mysuru.

The Chief Guests of the programme were Mrs. Rohini Sindhuri, District Commissioner, Mysuru, Mrs. Bharathi, CEO, Zilla Panchayat, Mysuru and Shri. Devamane B, Senior Civil Judge, Mysuru, graced the occasion. Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing presided over the programme. Felicitation was done to Blood Bank organizations and HIV survivors. Candle light Oath was taken for global solidarity against prevention of HIV/ AIDS.
