Activity Report of 2016 – 17
The inaugural ceremony was held on 26.02.2016 which was inaugurated by Guests, Dr. Kiran Hegde, Additional Medical Superintendent JSS Hospital, Dr. Corl T.S Vasan, Professor and HOD of Neurosurgery, JSS Hospital, Mrs. Janet Mathias, Deputy Chief of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital andProf. Sheela Williams, Principal JSS College of Nursing presided over the ceremony.
The valedictory program started with the invocation song by M. Sc Nursing students. Mrs. Indramani T, 1st year M. Sc Nursing student welcome the gathering. Workshop report was presented by Mr. Chandrasekar M., Organizing Secretary followed by certificate distribution to the delegates by the dignitaries on the Dias. The delegates expressed that the workshop was very effective. Mrs. Janet Mathias, Deputy Chief of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital, addressed the gathering. Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing presided over the program. Vote of Thanks was proposed by TwincyRajan1styear MSc Nursing student. The program ended with National Anthem.

Binu Sharma, Vice President, Nursing Services, Columbia Asia Hospitals PVT. Ltd, Sri. R Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mrs. Janet Mathias, Dy. Chief of Nursing Services, JSS Hospital and Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal JSS College of Nursing, were present. Chief Guest Sri. Nagaraja, Registrar, RGUHS emphasized the need for value-based professionals in order to provide quality care to patients. Eighty-eight 1st Year Basic B Sc Nursing students lit their lamps and took the oath. Followed by the programme Parents –Teachers meeting was conducted.
JSS Hospital, JSS College of Nursing and JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru organized International Nurses Day 2016 on 12th May 2016 at Sri Rajendra
Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, Mysuru at 03.00 p.m. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. M. R. Ravi, KAS, Additional Commissioner, Regional Commissioner Office, Mysuru, Dr. M. D. Ravi, Director, JSS Hospital Mysuru and Dr. K Lalitha, Professor, Department of Nursing, NIMHANS, Bengaluru. Dr. M R Ravi, Additional Commissioner mentioned in the speech that the objective of nursing is to provide service to the people and the nurses have to sacrifice their life because they deal with lives. Sri Mahesh R, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha presided over the occasion followed by a cultural programme.
The camp was inaugurated by lighting the lamp on 14.05.2016 in the esteemed presence of Dr. M. Rudraiah, Director, Department of Student Welfare, University of Mysuru, Mysuru, Sri. Guruswamy, Zilla Panchayath member Hadinaaru, Sri Sadananda, ZillaPanchayath member, Thagadooru, Sri Mahesh, Taluk Panchayath Member Thayuru, Sri. Vittala, Grama Panchayath Member, Gejjganahalli, Sri. Swamy, Grama Panchayath Member Gejjinganahalli, Sri Rangaswamy, Grama Panchayath Member, Gejjiganahalli, Smt. Gowramma Shivanna, President, Grama Panchayath, Thayuru, Mr. Chandrashekar, NSS Officer, Mr. Muralimohan, Asst. NSS Officer, Mr. Sunilkumar, Asst. NSS Officer, JSS College Of Nursing Mysuru. Chief guest Mr. Rudraiah addressed the gathering and appreciated the JSS College of Nursing for organizing service-oriented programme to the community. He emphasized the need of teaching villagers about the importance of sanitation and health. He encouraged the volunteers to give health education about the hazards of Non-communicable diseases.
The camp concluded with a valedictory function on 20.5.2016. Chief guest Sri Nataraj, Vice president, Zilla Panchayath, Mysuru addressed the gathering. He extended his appreciation and contribution of NSS volunteers of JSS College of Nursing and emphasized the need for community participation in the present scenario. He also expressed the importance of Swacch Bharath Abhiyan and sanitation Programme which helps to prevent many communicable diseases. Dr. Arun Balamatti, programme coordinator, JSS Krishi Vignyana Kendra, Suttur, presided over the function and also extended his hearty congratulations to the NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing for their tireless work.

NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing organized free checkup of Blood Pressure, Haemoglobin, Random Blood Sugar at Gejjiganahalli village. 126 villagers attended health screening programme. Most of them were diagnosed as Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus and Gastritis. 21 new cases and 15 old cases of Hypertension and 6 new cases and 10 old cases of Diabetes Mellitus were diagnosed. Free drugs were distributed during the Health Camp.

Free General medicine health check-up conducted at Gejjiganahalli on 16.05.16. 95 members were got benefited from free health check-ups. Most of them were above 40 years of age. The clients had major complaints of back pain, joint pain, visual problems, Headache, Gastritis, Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension. In those 6 new cases and 7 old cases of Hypertension, 4 new cases and 2 old cases of Diabetes mellitus were diagnosed. Free drugs were distributed during health check-up.

Paediatric health check-up conducted at Gejjiganahalli on 17.05.16. 120 children’s were benefited by the free health check-up. Commonly found complaints were fever and cold, cough. Free drugs were distributed during health camp.

Free Eye check-up conducted at Gejjiganahalli in collaboration with Dept. of Ophthalmology, JSS Hospital, Mysuru. 76 villagers attended the health camp and 14 were diagnosed as Cataract, 24 members with Refractive errors and 5 of them were referred for free cataract surgery offered by NSS Unit of JSS College of Nursing and JSS Hospital, Mysuru. Free Cataract Surgery was held on19.05.2016.

Free Ayurvedic check up organized in collaboration with JSS Ayurvedic Medical College, Mysuru. 60 clients got benefited from the free health check-up. Common complaints were joint pain, fever, cold, cough and migraine. Free drugs were distributed during the health camp.
Birth Centenary Celebrations of Dr. Sri. Shivaratri Rajendra Mahaswamiji:
JSS College of Nursing, JSS Physiotherapy, JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing and JSS School of Nursing Celebrated Birth Centenary Celebrations of Dr. Sri. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamijigalu on 24.06.16 at Sri. Rajendra Centenary Auditorium. Niranjana Pranava Swaroopa Sri. MallikarjunaSwamigalu, Sri Murugha Math, Dharwad inaugurated the Birth Centenary Celebrations of Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji. The Chief guests were Prof. C Basavaraju, Registrar, Mysuru University and Prof. H V Veerabhadrayya, Kannada Professor (Rtd), Siddaganga College, Tumukur andSri. S.P. Manjunath, Secretary – I, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru Presided over the function. Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing, Dr. N P Nataraj, Director, JSS Institute of Speech & Hearing, Dr. Kavitha Raja, Principal, JSS College of Physiotherapy and Mr. Shashidhara Kumar, Principal, JSS School of Nursing were present on the occasion.
During Sambharama -2016 students of JSS College of Nursing participated in various cultural and literary competitions and won many prizes.
The inauguration of Sambhrama 2016 was formally held on 7th December 2016 Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Bhavana, Mysuru. The guests were Sri. Janardhan H (Janni), Theatre Artist and playback singer, Sri Mime Ramesh, Theatre artist Rangayana, Sri Mahesh R, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, presided over the occasion and encouraged the students to participate in co-curricular activities. Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing, was present during the programme. After the inauguration, the stage events like Mime, Short act, Mad ads, Short movie, Solo dance Indian, Solo dance Classical, Solo dance Western were conducted followed by prizes for the respective events were distributed on the same day.
On 08.12.16 started the programme by 9.30am with Duet dance, Group dance Indian, Group dance Western, Solo Song Indian, Group dance Classical, Solo Song Western, Fashion show, Mr. CON and Ms. CON. There was a special programme after the events of the day by Mr. Chandan, Actor and Play Back singer entertained the audience by his melodious songs.
On 09.12.16, the programme started at 09.30 am with Group song, western and Indian Group song. There was prize distribution for the events conducted on 8th and 9th of December by the Judges Mr. Devanand and Ms. Laasya. The Cultural Meet Sambharama 2016 ended by 12 pm, with the announcement of the Individual championship and overall championship.
Students actively participated in indoor and outdoor events.
The inauguration of Energia 2016 was formally held on 10th December 2016. Sports ground of JSS Public School, JP Nagar, Mysuru. The guests were Sri. M Yogendra, International Athlete, Mrs. Dr. Savitha Prasahanth, Ekalavya Awards, National Basket Ball player. Principal, JSS College of Nursing, presided over the occasion and encouraged the students to participate in Sports activities. After inauguration the outdoor events like 1000 meter running, volleyball, cricket, throw the ball, long jump, high jump conducted and 1st-day outdoor events ended by 6 pm.
On 11.12.16 started, the programme with 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400-meter running was conducted, followed by prize distribution for winners and runners. On the afternoon, lemon and spoon, sack race, laggy, tug of war, three-leg race, 400 x 4 relay conducted, followed by prize distribution.
The Annual Sports Meet, Energia 2016 ended by 6 pm, with the active participation of students.
