Activity Report of 2015 – 16
The overall purpose of this workshop was to enable the nurses to develop leadership qualities and expertise in the area of critical care nursing.
Before selecting the topic for the workshop, need assessment was done in various schools of nursing in Karnataka and based on the felt need the topic “NURSE: BE SMART IN CRITICAL CARE” was selected.
A total of 132 delegates from various schools of nursing, Karnataka participated in the workshop. The schools of nursing participated were:
- JSS School of Nursing, Mysuru – 38
- JSS School of Nursing, Chamarajanagar – 44
- JSS School of Nursing, Kollegala – 30
- JSS School of Nursing, Sakaleshpura – 20
Inaugural ceremony was held at 10:30 am which was inaugurated by Guests , Dr. P A Kushalappa, Director (Academic), JSS University, Dr. Guruswamy M, Medical Superintendent, JSS Hospital, Mrs. Janet Mathias , DCNS, JSS Hospital , Dr. M D Ravi, Prof of Pediatric dept, Vice principal (clinical), Dr. Akkamahadevi, Prof and HOD of EMD, JSS Hospital and Sri. R. Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSSMVP presided over the ceremony. The keynote address was given by Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing.
Valedictory started at 5:10 pm with the invocation song by B. Sc nursing students.Ms. Rojina Bhurtel, II year M. Sc nursing student welcomed the gathering.
Workshop report was presented by Mrs. J Lissa, Organizing Secretary, followed by the certificate distribution to the delegates by the dignitaries on the Dias. The delegates expressed that the workshop was very effective.
Mrs. Noorjahan, Nursing Superintendent, Narayana Hrudayalaya, Mysuru addressed the gathering and the presidential address was given by Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing. The vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Rashmi P, II year M. Sc nursing student. Valedictory ended with National Anthem at 5:40 pm.
The Chief Guest Dr. S Sacchidanand, Registrar, Evaluation, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, said that no other profession demands an attitude like motherly kindness than Nursing. It is one of the most important professions that need to be handled with utmost care. About 85 students took the oath of practising learning faithfully. President of Zilla Panchayath Dr. Pushpa Amarnath who was one of the Chief Guest distributed the prizes for the champions of Energia 2013-14, the Annual Sports Meet. The College Magazine Bimba 2013-14 was also released at the occasion. Parents of I Year B. Sc. Nursing students, other invitees, students and faculties attended the ceremony.
NSS unit of JSS College of Nursing, Mysore conducted an NSS Annual Special Camp for 6 days at Kalkunda Village, Nanjanagud taluk Mysuru District, with Theme “Prevention of Cancer, Communicable Disease & Maintain Personal Hygiene and Environmental Sanitation’’ from 25.03.2015 to 31.03.2015.
The camp was inaugurated by lighting the lamp on 25.03.2015 at 6 pm in the esteemed presence of Dr. Raghukumar T, District Aids Prevention & Control Officer, Mysuru, Dr. Suvarna, District Tuberculosis Officer, Mysuru, Mrs. Rathnamma Subbanna, Vice President, Gramapanchyath, Biligere. Sri. Mahadevaswamy, President, Sri. Dharmasthla Women Welfare Society, Kalkunda, Mr. Chandrashekar NSS Officer, Mr. Muralimohan, Asst NSS Officer, Mr. Suneel Kumar, Asst. NSS Officer, JSS College of Nursing Mysuru, Chief Guest Dr. Raghukumar address the gathering & he appreciated the role of JSS College of Nursing in serving community at large, he emphasized the need of teaching villagers about importance of sanitation and health and he also encouraged the volunteers to give health education about the hazards of different communicable diseases. Dr. Suvarna spoke about the prevention & management of tuberculosis and Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing presided over the function.
On 31.03.2015 camp concluded with valedictory function at 11.30am. Chief Guest Sri. Madappa, Vice President, Zilla Panchayath, Mysuru addressed the gathering. He extended his appreciation for the contribution of NSS volunteers of JSS College of nursing and emphasized the need of community participation in present scenario & Expressed about the importance of Swacch Bharath Abhiyan and Total Sanitation Programme which helps to prevent many Communicable Diseases. Guest of honour Mrs. Saraswathi Venkatesh, President, Lioness Club South), Mysuru appreciated the contribution of JSS college of nursing in community services and thanked the local residents of Kalkunda who rendered their helping hands in making the camp successful. Dr. Arun Balamatti, Programme Coordinator, JSS Krishi Vignyan Kendra, Suttur, Guest for the function also extended his hearty congratulations to the NSS unit of JSS College of Nursing for their tireless work.
Sri Rathnashekar, President, Farmers Association, Nanjanagud presided over the function and other special invitee Mrs, Sarvamangala, President, Samskruthi Lioness Club, Mysuru, Mrs. Rathnamma Subbanna, Vice President, Gramapanchayath, Biligere were present in the function. The programme concluded at 1 pm.
The inauguration of Sambhrama 2015 was held on 10.06.2015 at 10.00am at Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Bhavana, JSS Hospital, Mysuru. The Guests Dr. YS Siddegowda, Registrar, Music and Performing Arts University, Mysore appreciated the enthusiasm of the students to participate in the cultural and literary events and also he opinioned need for taking part in extracurricular activities along with academics is supplemental for the mental and physical growth of students. Sri Chinthan Vikas, Playback Singer, Mysuru appreciated the unconditional service of the nurses in caring for the patients. Prof. Sheela Williams, Principal, JSS College of Nursing, Mysuru presided over the function. Students participated in various cultural and literary competitions and won many prizes.
